Picture finalizing a VWL resale purchase in April, then immediately attempting to book anything there for 4-9 Dec. As you might expect, there was precious little available. There was a 1BR for the first night, nothing for the next two nights, then a 1BR for the last two nights. And the only rooms available for those two missing nights were at SSR so we took the plunge. Though split stays can be a slight hassle, being able to stay at a DVC resort during the holidays at all was a bonus, much less knowing that a few of those nights would be at the home resort. We were okay with that arrangement given the timing of finalizing the contract for VWL. That's how the situation stayed for several weeks, despite near daily calls from my associate or me. Besides, who wouldn't want six new mugs?
Naturally, we went on a waitlist. . .just in case.
The phone calls eventually ebbed to maybe twice a week with the same story: no room at the inn. Except one day, about two months ago, that all changed. Unexpectedly, there was an opening for a 2BR on the nights of the 5th and 6th at VWL--we jumped at it. Yes, it would still be a split stay, but at least it would be in-house (and let's not forget the mugs!). Once again, despite the renewed frequency of calls to MS, the situation remain unchanged. But, hey, it was a holiday trip to "home." We felt very lucky, indeed.
Until. . .until last week. Calling MS for a completely unrelated question, my associate, according to habit, inquired about the off-off-off-off-off chance that a 1BR might have opened up. The CM responded, "Actually, yes. Your waitlist came through--you now have a 1BR reservation for the 4th, a 1BR reservation for the 5th/6th, and yet another 1BR reservation for the 7th/8th." Holy schmoly. The holy grail had been attained! Within moments, the CM linked the three 1BR ressies together into one. . .no room changing, no living out of a suitcase for five nights, no storing bags and waiting for them to arrive three separate times, no higher math skills to divvy up the DxDP credits for each reservation, and almost sadly, no six free mugs. I know. . .it brings a tear to my eye, too. Those mugs would've had a good home; they'd have been happy, I just know it. . .
Is there a moral here? You betcha! I know it won't always work out for everyone searching for last-minute ressies, but sometimes, dreams (or mere wishes in this case) do come true.
NEVER GIVE UP. . .NEVER SURRENDER!
. . .oh, and do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight, get down tonight. . .
