Never been to a Disney resort - what not to miss

Hi, we are going to Orlando in Sept/Oct and apart from a couple of nights booked on the Boardwalk we have never been to a disney resort.

We've set aside a few days to explore the resorts but what are your 'do not miss' things to do? I'm not so much on about places to eat but things to do or sights to see.

What would you recommend?

you will love the boardwalk ..we go every trip just to sit asnd relax..magic shows piano bar,,espn,,so much to see there,,,but ,,,,you got to go to the animal kingdom lodge,,go to the gift shop,,the viewing area out back is awsum..its so nice there..take the boat ride from port orleans,,to down town disney,,20 mint ride through the rivers of disney and the golf courses..go to the observation deck at the contemporey,,great view of all disney world..go to the poly and sit on the beach and watch the fire works from the magic kingdom..soo much to see at othewr resortss

I think the observation deck at CR has been restricted to diners at California Grill, but don't quote me on that!

Definitely tour the monorail resorts (GF, Poly, CR) and the EPCOT resorts (BWI, BC, YC, Swan & Dolphin). I still haven't made it WL or AKL yet, but am hoping to remedy this in December.

As the previous poster mentioned, take the boat from DTD to OKW/SSR or POR/POFQ. If you want a nice meal in comfortable surroundings, make an ADR for the Turf Bar & Grill at SSR. Excellent food (limited menu) and service when we lunched there in October, 2006.

If the budget and ages permit, an evening at the Adventurer's Club on PI is one of my favourites! It usually opens about 7 p.m., although it can be around 8 p.m. if it's booked for a private party.
