We' ve never been to WDW in Aug. before. I know it will be hot, but for those of you that have been, what is your best tip/advice. DD-5 & DS 2 will both be in strollers. I just can not imagine not having the strollers!

We've gone in August the past three summers.

#1 go to the parks at opening, then take a midday break ... my grandkids like to go back to the hotel and swim for a bit

#2 drink lots of water, then drink more ... we usually carry water bottles into the parks in the morning and then refill them at the water fountains (we don't mind the taste of WDW water).

#3 buy some of those Disney "necklace fans" they cost about $7 but we've used ours for three trips ... the cheapie ones I bought at Target didn't survive their first morning at the park

#4 don't forget to use lots of sunblock and drink more water :earboy2:

#5 if you get overheated head for one of the air-conditioned shops to cool off.

HTH!

This will be my family's third trip to Disney in the month of August. The heat does get overwhelming-and the rain :umbrella: doesn't cool things off-it makes it hotter-but if you pace your day you'll be just fine.

We use the hand held fans (the one we bought in Disney is much better than the "cheap" versions we brought from home :), drink tons of water, and try to work the day around the heat-take breaks, visit AC rides during high sun times, etc.

FYI-the crowd volume starts to fall off toward the midddle to end of August because the FL schools are back in session-great time to go!!!!!

Enjoy the trip!!!!!!

Just a word of caution... it is hurricane season. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and have seen a prevalance around July-September. Last year my Dh and Dn planned a trip to go early August- had to cancel due to one of the hurricanes. :guilty: Then rescheduled-had to cancel again due to hurricanes. :guilty: Third time's the charm? Once we got there, we found out that the airport was closing the next day at 5pm, due to a hurricane. So, now we are not allowed to go during hurricane season-DH's rules. :confused3

We drove in from NY last August-straight through hurricane Charlie :umbrella: Very scary!

I was amazed at how quickly Disney recovered-Orlando was a mess-but Disney was fine. We arrived two days after the parks had been closed because of the storm and everything looked normal. Many of the cast members had damage to their homes and were staying on property with us.

We have gone the last week of August for 6 of last 7 years. Last year we were lucky and were there during the two week period between between Hurricanes 1 & 2. Four years ago we had a Hurricane (Floyd, I think) sit about sixty miles off the coast of Florida directly East of Orlando before it eventually moved North and hit North Carolina. That was touch and go for a while as they thought it was going to move West into central Florida. Another year we watched as a TS headed for Florida. It was supposed to turn into a hurrican and looked like it would arrive when we did but it fizzled at sea a couple of days before we arrived. Otherwise, it is usually hot and humid (90's) with late afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Bring panchos.

I love August - no hotter than anywhere else. I agree with what everyone says - lots of H20 and mid day breaks. Also - buy the cheap, disposable rain ponchos at the dollar store. You wear them once and throw them out. It rains every afternoon like clockwork, so remember that if you are planning on spending an afternoon in the water parks.

We went last August and even though it was hot, we had a wonderful time. In fact we're doing it again this year! In addition to all the great tips already mentioned, a few others we did were to bring a wet facecloth in a bag so to wipe your face. It makes a difference and helps to freshen you up. We also brought the gel neck ties and those worked great! Take it slow and easy and don't rush around and you'll be fine. Try not to think about the heat. You're at Disney!! Who cares! Oh, and eat Mickey ice creams!! :mickeybar
