Netflix says that you have 17,000 choices to watch on the TV with an XBOX 360... But when I flip through the categories, I saw only about 1000 choices - I added up the numbers ( roughly ) of the # of titles it said it had in each category.... am I missing something?

I never did the math, but are you viewing the list on Live or are you viewing it on the computer at the Netflix site?

Check these 2 sites out. The first is a list of all the movies available. The 2nd it a list of what's coming to instant watch in the very near future. Neither site is run or operated by Netflix.

Here is also a handy URL to bookmark. It's Netflix' page for all new movies releasing within the next week (hard copies and instant). I know it's a hard page to find and Netflix doesn't like to make it easy on the users to find this page, so bookmark it.

BTW, I did the math quickly on the 1st site I linked to above and came up with over 10,000. I didn't see 17,000, so perhaps the site misses some, or Netflix inflates their numbers?

I do know they could use a lot of help in making the site easier to navigate thru. I've never found it particularly user friendly. That doesn't mean I don't LOVE their service because I do, I just wish it were easier to find movies you might be interested in.

I think you may have miscalculated.

For example, in the comedy genre there are about 672 watch instantly selections (28 pages with 24 movies per page). I'm sure some genres have more and some have less, but there are 19 genres. So if they averaged 500 selections per genre, there would be 9,500. That's not 17,000 but definitely more than 1000 choices.

Quite a few of the watch instantly selections are tv shows where you can watch individual episodes, so they may also count those separately to bump up their total.

We cancelled our satellite a few months ago and have just been watching netflix and hulu by hooking our laptop up to the tv. My only issue with netflix is the watch instantly option is only available on the main profile, so I can't set up a separate watch instantly queue for the kids.

Maybe they count episodes for TV series? So each episode counts as one of the 17,000 choices but in showing them on the page it's just one item displayed.

Edited to add....

Or as tzolkin said:

Hulu also counts individual episodes. I believe Comcast, Cox, Charter and Cablevision do as well, in their On Demand offerings. It is the standard way of counting offerings.... each thing you can select is "one". With DVDs themselves, you cannot have 1/3 of a DVD sent to you, so each DVD counts as "one". With other media, the selections can get a lot more granular. That's actually good news, especially once Hulu starts charging: Instead of charging $4 to rent four episodes of Dexter on a single DVD disc, they can charge $1 for each individual episode.

Not on my XBOX Live channel... I approximately added up all the movies on each channel... I can see about 700 movies spread out over all the channels. I *CAN" see that many movies when looking at Netflix on the computer.

Yeah, they don't show you everything on xbox live. And actually, up until recently, all you could see was your instant queue. Being able to see different genres is actually a new-ish thing, within the past month or so.

The instant queue from XBOX, or can it see my PC online queue?

I am never on Live, so I thought you could view all the movies from the Live site. I guess not though, eh? Hubby did tell me he could see them, but I never checked it myself. Since he doesn't watch much (he's too busy playing games), he probably thought they were all there.

You can add them to your queue from the Netflix site and anything that's in your queue should be viewable from Live. I know you used to be able to see everything in your queue and I am hoping that feature hasn't changed and I can't imagine why they would even attempt to take that away.

It might be a pain, but just jump online, see what you wanna watch, move it to your #1 position in your instant queue (so you don't have to go thru a long queue, it technically doesn't have to be at #1) and then load it via Live to watch it from your TV.

Sorry, yes, the Live should be able to view your queue. You only have 1 queue and it doesn't matter where you add them from, it all goes to the same 1.

I understand before I joined (couple years ago), you used to be able to set up different queues for different members of your family, but not anymore.

On the Netflix website on your PC, you should have 2 queues: your DVD queue and an instant queue. Your instant queue on the Netflix website is the same as your queue from your xbox live Netflix. So if you add something to your queue from netflix.com, then it will be added to your queue on xbox live. Same goes for removing things from your queue.

What she said!!! LOL I just assumed he'd know there were separate queues for instant watch and DVD shipments. I'm glad you responded with this post.

When my SIL bought her first computer, I went down and walked her thru everything I could think of to get her started. The next time I was there, she asked me, why does the computer always tell me that I improperly shut down my computer each time I boot it up? It never dawned on me to tell her how to properly shut it down. :lmao:

I actually didn't know about the 2 queues, but now I do, so it makes much more sense now.
