I put several new movies in my que that have not released yet. For Example "The Box" shows release date 3/23 but today I go to Hollywood video and they had it and also Amazon shows it released today and could purchase. Also Informant is already at Hollywood Video but on Netflix it has a 3/23 release date. Whats up with that?

Also I noticed that if you do not get the new release same day it releases and you will either have a "very long wait" or "long wait".

I had the movie "everybodys fine" in my que even though my movie that I had at home was in their hands this morning and it has released and I still did not get it and now it shows long wait.:confused3

I can't say about the release dates. But, I will tell you that just last week I had 2 movies in my queue that were new releases. Both said "very long wait" initially, but they did both ship to me on the listed release date. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I always put those with a wait as #1 in my list.

netflix usually does not get new releases in stock the day they are released in stores.

Thats strange being such a huge company that they do not get releases on the day they come out everywhere else including rental stores. :confused3

I love Netflix...the delay doesn't bother me at all.

This article may explain some of the policies between the studios and Netflix. It is all about the money...(I know...big surprise!)

Thank you for that article. It explains alot. I love Netflix too but was curious after I walked in Hollywood Video to see the new releases already in there.:thumbsup2

I'm really frustrated with them right now too. We noticed unauthorized charges on our card a few weeks back and canceled the card immediately. Now, we are in the process of waiting on new cards to arrive and well, Netflix tried to take out the payment and naturally, was denied. I looked all over the site and can't find a way to send payment, so we purchased a throw away card to use till our new one arrives. I logged in to make the changes and it was refused because pre-purchased cards are not an acceptable form of payment. I literally just flew the card up in the air. I was shocked a very disgusted. They won't take any form of auto payment from a checking account, no Paypal, no nothing.

I got an email that's titled, "Houston, we have a problem." I did get quite the kick out of that, but I still don't have a way of paying my account until our new card arrives. :(

Another issue right now is some studios are trying to prevent Netflix and Redbox from issuing rentals of new releases until 28 days after the DVD's have been released for sale. The studios don't make any money off the rentals, and they want to maximize the return on the sales. Netflix has already agreed to delaying the rental of any Warner Brothers movie until 28 days after it has been released on DVD

From the second article:

The studio is hoping that the four-week window will push consumers interested in watching movies at home to buy the DVDs or pay a premium to rent them from stores like Blockbuster or from Internet and cable video-on-demand services. Warner Bros. already imposes a 28-day window on $1-a-night kiosk firm Redbox.

Yes, Time Warner has signed a deal that went into effect a couple of days ago for Redbox. My brothers GF was over here and she is a Redbox user. Well she was saying she was trying to rent the "Time Travelers Wife" and could not find it anywhere. She did not know about the deal.

That was on SAT, I think. She said that "The Time Travelers Wife" was in the kiosks on Thur., and then they were gone.

That explains it then. I had seen Time Traveler's Wife at Target a couple of weeks ago so I went to put it in my queue and it said "released March 9th."

Well, I am in no rush, I can wait until March 9th.

I wonder if the studios really believe that making people wait an additional 28 days to see new releases is going to actually translate into increased sales. There are very few movies I want to see so badly that I will go out and buy the DVD just to see it sooner. In those cases, I usually see the movie when it's in the theater.

Same here. I don't really have the need to have to see a new release right away and I do not buy movies.

I did just get Vampires Assistant (which is new) and District 9 in the mail yesterday.

I just put 2012 in the top of my Queue and is says it releases on March 2nd.

Wow, I didn't know about this new release date/vs. date in the store thing about Netflix. It used to be that I would get a new release the day before it actually came out, if I timed my returns just right. So now I'll be waiting a month to get new releases? Oh well, that's fine with me. I have about 200 movies in my queue right now, so it doesn't bother me to not get new releases right away. I can be patient. I just love their service because I don't have to drive to the video rental store, then make a second trip to return it and possibly have late charges to deal with if I don't get it back in time. I've been a member for 7 years now, I think.

And must be a lot of people are getting away from the video stores because the big video store in our area is going out of business, I noticed that just yesterday as I was driving by. I haven't rented a video from them in years.

It is 5 bucks to rent a movie at Blockbuster. There is no way I am paying that. I prefer my Netflix just for that reason. I have the 2 at a time.

Plus, the bonus for me is that I rent TV series on Netflix, which is my draw for keeping them.

Right now, I am going to watch the first season of NCIS and then Fringe.

We used to rent movies on our DirecTV quite often, but now that they charge $4.99 per movie and even higher (I've seen some as high as $9.99, the ones that are released that day) we haven't gotten one in years. I don't understand why people would pay that much. :confused3

OK, yes "The Box" is Time Warner along with "The Informant" and "The Time Travelers Wife".

Missing this week are The Informant! and The Box. Both titles will be available on Netflix on March 23rd, but you can add them to your queue now

Here is the "hacking Netflix" site to keep you in the loop.

You know Blockbuster has a Movie Rental program as well, you can rent movies online and exchange them (up to a limited number of times) in store for another movie.

I don't use either service, I just buy the movies I want or on the rare occasion we want to rent one, we stop by a RedBox. We have about 400 DVDs racked in our changer.

ITA. We got an LG home theater system that allows us to stream Netflix among other services, and whoever came up with that should get the Nobel prize or something. ;) I've watched the Tudors and we're currently into season 3 of Friday Night Lights.

As for the wait: if I was in such a hurry, I would've gone to the theater to catch it when it first came out. I don't mind waiting a little longer, especially when I have about 100 DVDs in my queue.

I just put Everybody's Fine in my queue on Sunday, and it said "short wait" so I figured I was a little late in requesting it. But, on Tuesday, the day it was released, I got an e-mail saying it was shipping. I'll get it today.

The Box confused me. It released yesterday, but netflix won't have it until next month. The deal that a PP mentioned explains a lot. I wanted to see it when it was in the theater, so now that I know it is on DVD, I may pay to get it off Pay per view. (Comcast has it available same day as dvd release)

I used to use Netflix, but I've been with Blockbuster Online for about 2 years now. I thought about going back to Netflix for the streaming, but when I looked at the sparse selection of titles available for streaming, I decided it wasn't worth it. This 28 day agreement is just another strike against Netflix and one more advantage to BB.

The other big advantage of BB is the ability to exchange online rentals for an in-store rental.

Get 3 movies in the mail.
Watch all of them.
Exchange them in-store for 3 more movies.
Watch all of them.
Return them to the store.
Wait 2 days.
Get 3 more movies in the mail and repeat.

If I had enough free time, I could easily watch 12 movies a week for the $18 a month I pay.
And I could watch them when they first come out, instead of having to wait a month.
