Can anyone tell me if you have any drops or movement similar to a ferris wheel? My family and I are going to Disney in June and have never been on Soarin. My DH wants to ride it but besides being afraid of heights I also hate being on a ferris wheel where your stomach drops as it moves down. Are there any movements similar to a ferris wheel or is this ride totally different. If someone could take me step by step of what the ride is like,Thanks :thumbsup2

There are no sudden drops on Soarin just to put your mind at rest. You are however lifted into the air and placed infront of a HUGE screen which displays landscapes such as the Golden Gate bridge, Disneyland California and a forest. You are lifted reasonably high, but you are tilted slightly backwards and aren't able to see the floor. The simulation is very realistic but it isn't scary!
Put it this way, my mum is also afraid of heights but after the initial apprension she warmed to it and we rode it three time in one day!
Hope this helps :goodvibes

The ride is supposed to simulate hang-gliding. I don't remember it feeling like a ferris wheel or any big drops. You sit in this long row of chairs, in front of a huge movie screen and the chairs lift you up, and away you go, feeling the simulated wind in your hair, smelling the simulated smells of the orange groves that you are 'gliding' over. It has become one of my family's favorite rides. My mother, who is afraid of almost every ride...Carousels even, is the biggest chicken you could ever meet, and she went on it and absolutely LOVED it! I say go on it, and enjoy it with your family!:thumbsup2 Have a great Disney Vacation!:woohoo:

I was very nervous the first time I rode itand I'm also scared of Ferris Wheels (I'll take ToT anyday), but I enjoyed Soarin so much, that it's now my favorite ride at Disney. The first time the seat lifted up, it did catch me by surprise, but once I got up there (I was in the front/top row each time I rode), and saw the beautiful sights and smelled the wonderful aromas, I forgot all about my nervousness. I think the seats may tilt from side to side some, but I'm not for sure about that. Someone else may know about that. I hope you give it a chance. ;)

If you are concerned about heights you can ask to be in the third row, it is barely off the floor. There are no actual sudden movements, it is mostly that you feel like it because you are watching a video screen that drops, like soaring through a river canyon. It is a must see, you will love it!

Thank you for putting me at ease.As I said my DH really wanted to ride this one.But I was aprehensive about that butterfly feeling you get when you are moving down on a ferris wheel.I will give it a try.I guess if I get too scared I could just close my eyes too ;) .

I HATE heights and won't go on ferris wheels. Soarin' is beautiful and not scary in the least. You do feel as if you are hang gliding, and at times it feels as if you are way up high, but I didn't get that palm-sweating feeling. Probably just because I knew it wasn't truly it! It was amazing, I've been ranting and raving to my friends about it. The music is wonderful too. YOu won't want the experience to end.

I have to admit - I was very nervous for Soarin, but I knew that I had to do it and I really wanted to.

The first time on, I was very tense and nervous, but I sat next to a woman who was on before and said that it was no big deal, and to relax and enjoy. So I took her advice and tried to remind myself to relax. The second time I was TOTALLY relaxed and loved it!

You will be fine. You are not up high enough to notice, and just keep telling yourself you are not up high at all. It is worth it - so try to relax and enjoy!

Also, FASTPASS is a MUST! Go there EARLY!

did soarin - have extremely sensitive (to motion) stomach - closed my eyes right after it started (that flying over the water did me in) - queasy afterwards - DH went on it without me for rest of the trip - my loss

Wow texdisneygal thanks.Looks a little scary.O.K. I am a wimp but....I will try it.I just hope I don't chicken out before I get on.

I love Soarin, but get what you mean about ferris wheels. The sun wheel at DCA is hard to take, especially when you get a moving gondola. But Soarin' is a piece of cake and a must see.

Another one that always gets me queezy and to the point of losing my lunch is Star Tours. Something about being in that small vehicle gets me everytime.

Soarin is a fun experience. You are strapped in a seat. The you are lifted up and forward in front of a big screen. Once the show is over you are lowered down slowly...

OK. First of all, this thread is great. I have been mocked by my family for years because of a ferris wheel "adventure" I had several years ago. The thing wasn't even that high. A bit bigger than a kiddie one. My husband and I boarded and then went back one car for the next one to load. We weren't even three feet off the ground. I froze. I can't even tell you want happened in the next ten minutes. My husband thought I'd faint. So I am "glad" to know there are others out there like me. Thank you all.

So I was very concerned about Soarin'. But I had to do it. The initial liftup was not that great for me and I tried to get myself relaxed enough to enjoy it. I did after a while but then something happened on the screen and I tensed up again. The descent is quick and all at once.

The second time I went on, I was much more relaxed and even though it still was nerve wracking to start out with, I was fine.

As long as your husband understands your fears, you should be fine. On that ferris wheel ride, I don't even think my husband breathed!

I do not like ferris wheels and am also afraid of heights and I LOVE Soarin. It has become my favorite ride. There are no sudden drops you never feel your stomach drop. I think you will be fine and really like it. Let us know:thumbsup2

DW has vertigo and she loves Soaring. She was nervous about going on it the first time too, but now it is her favorite ride. She even snuck off to Epcot one night alone to ride it by herself. Jay
