In all the times that we have gone to WDW we have never rented a car...until now...

We will be renting a car from National on Oct 3rd staying outside of WDW for 2 nights dropping the car off 'somewhere inside WDW property' on Sunday and taking a shuttle to our resort (poly)??

Has anyone done this? advice? comments? helpful hints?

We are arriving late on Friday...driving to the Renaissance resort ...going to Sea World on Saturday...then driving to WDW on Sunday to drop our car off...a week at the Poly and then we are having a Town car pick us up to take us to the airport.

How far from airport to Renaissance? is it an easy ride?

Sea World to WDW car center??

thanks any input would be great!

Have you considered just keeping the car for the whole week? Disney transportation is great...but a car can be better and sometimes faster than the buses or monorail (actually I hear the poly is probably the most convienent place to travel via Disney trans. of all the resorts). We stayed on property at AKL in February and rented a car and it was really nice to have. Much faster to go to DTD or to the Boardwalk or other resorts like Fort Wilderness. Just a thought. You can get great rates on rental cars through Priceline.com too. You don't have a choice of car companies, but they guarentee a reputable chain. We got Budget and ended up with a brand new car even. Not sure how much the town car will cost you to take you back to the airport, so maybe a rental would cost you a lot more. Our total cost including all the fees and such was 194.00 for an ecomony car for 8 days. Not knowing how big a car you require and other circumstances, this might not be an option, but it certainly was nice to have a car at the resorts.

I think a lot of the car dropoff sites at WDW are right across the street from DTD. We rented from Alamo a few years back and that is where we dropped that car off.

roserae makes a valid point. There is nothing like the conveninece of having a car at your disposal while at WDW.

Disney transportation works fine, but what if you want to check out another resort?...or have lunch at Coronado?...decide at the last minute to dine at Wolfgang Pucks? With a car you can go where and when you wish.

Having said that, if you really want to proceed with your original plan, you might want to drive to the Poly first to unload your luggage and check in. This will save the hassle of transferring everything to another vehicle.

After you are settled, it's just a quick drive to the car care center to drop off the car...the valet can give you directions.
