Nervous about Pop...

My husband and I have decided to book a family vacation for next year at Pop. We've never stayed here before and honestly have not had great experiences at the other values. I figure with the refurbishment and the new Skyliner going in, it's worth a shot. But I'm nervous about the amount of people there, if it'll feel chaotic, and be a fight every day for buses. I see a lot of love on here for Pop, so can you share with me some of the pros/cons you've experienced there and recommend what class of room to book - standard/pool view/preferred? Thanks!

I thought you were over the values. :rolleyes1

No need to be a jerk, just asking a question.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that was my first reaction since you did start a thread a few days ago saying you were over the values.

To answer your question.....I love Pop. I think the buses are fantastic and standard rooms are awesome! It never feels chaotic to me. But I also loved my time at the All Stars, so I'm not sure how you'll feel at Pop.

We either stay deluxe or at Pop.

Pop has excellent bus service, extremely comfortable beds, lots of storage and outlets in the rooms, easy access to two good food courts if you walk over to AoA.

Now I would rather not spend a week there, but for a 4 night trip it’s perfect for us. If we do a week we spend more time at the resorts and prefer deluxe.

Oh, my bad. I must have misinterpreted the eyeroll at the end.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would say NOT to do preferred pool view. The walls are very thin and we had to call the front desk numerous times to complain about pool noise at all hours of the night. (This was 2013)

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I would assume standard pool view is much the same?

Preferred pool view was 60s building facing the Hippy Dippy Pool. Standard Pool View would probably face the quieter pools in 90s or 50s.

Really enjoyed Pop with the new rooms. Yeah-depending on family size not sure I'd want to spend more than a few days, but for 3 or 4 people and less than 5 days it's fun. Was going to do a week at Pop in August, but since son decided he didn't want to come, it is just me and DH we are doing a split stay. Booked a preferred room this time, was in 80's building last time and it was a quick walk to AoA food court or Pop buses

I always had a standard room, as it is not that big a resort to get around and I am cheap. My first stay I requested high floor and lake view, and got a room on the first floor, and while technically lake view, it was right on the corner of the wing (I think it was 3125?). It was fine. Next trip I was on a higher floor in the bldg with the 6000's, which was also nice. Last August I requested a refurbished room so was in the 90's section, which was a good location also. The only time I found the bus lines to be an issue was after park closing (especially after the Halloween party) and a couple of times I took AoA buses back instead. The food court is crowded in the morning if you go at the most popular time.

I've stayed at POP 3 times. If value was the only option for me, which is has been on some trips, POP is the only one I would choose right now. We stayed at All Star Sports twice, both when my kids were younger. We had no issues with our stays and my only complaint was it's so darn far from everything not Animal Kingdom. Another stay, just me and my 2 kids, I wanted to try POP and we loved it. Still a value, but what I felt was more like value plus. Rooms were similar but I liked that it was a lot more green (compared to all stars) with the lake in the back and just more landscaping for a value. The All Stars really have no serene areas...but I felt POP did. I loved the quiet mornings by the lake with my coffee! While we do prefer the mod level overall, I did add 2 nights to our most recent trip and took POP because POR was not available. I thought the new rooms were very nice and I like a lot of the upgrades. The new beds are comfortable, the shower is nice and plugs, plugs and even more plugs! But all that stuff has made the room feel pretty small. IMHO it's perfectly good for 2 people, maybe 1 child....but 4 adult sized people it was pretty crowded. 2 nights was OK, but I couldn't see my family staying there again without 2 rooms for an entire trip. So that's one consideration if your family will like it. Bus service has always been as good or as bad as any other level of resort we stayed at. In fact, except the lack of shade in the lines....I really do prefer the more organized way it's done at the values, vs the walk up, multi-park, who was here first type of waiting at the others. The food court can be a bit busy at peak meal times, but it's not unmanageable. As far as location. I like the standard, 60's lake view. Your a short walk to the pool, lobby/food court and buses and the bridge to AOA....and the back side of the resort is a lot more peaceful. The construction over the lake did not bother us at all. I also stayed one time in a standard pool room. Requested 50's. I was a very short walk to the main building and pool as well, but I like the lake view better and less people walking by your room.

regards

I've stayed at pop twice, 80s and 50s. Both times were great. I never had a problem with noise or crowding. I thought the buses were on par with other resorts. The food court is great, I love the tie dye cheesecake.

POP is the only Value we have stayed. It was exactly what we expected and we had a great time. The rooms are a bit small for the four of us. We were supposed to stay there next month, but booked a one bedroom off site for more space. I think if you go into it knowing what to expect (you have stayed at Values), you will enjoy it. What were your issues with the other values? I would consider a mod if you think you might enjoy the trip more. Do you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort? Is the pool a factor? (We have fun at the POP pool).

We’ve stayed at Pop twice and more recently at All Star Sports. We had good stays each time. We did encounter groups at each but really had no issues. Pop has a nicer food court and lobby, but Pop felt huge to us. One of the rooms we had at Pop faced the lake and it was delightful! We are staying at moderate for our next trip, but I have no problem going to values again in the future. Sometimes moderate isn’t in the budget for us.

And both had good bus service, but be forewarned the bus stops at the parks and Disney Springs for the values, especially Pop are a long walk! I actually prefer the bus service at the values and POFQ where there is only one bus stop. You wait in an orderly queue and when you get on that the next stop is your destination, no stopping and waiting for others to board at the multiple stops! And now with the computerized bus boards there is no guesswork when the next one is coming.

I'm not a huge fan of the values but really loved our March trip this year when we got a refurbed room at Pop. The room reminded me of the refurbed room at CSR which I also liked a lot and having queen size beds makes a huge difference if you're with family and sharing a bed. I'll be going back during free dining this Fall and I'm looking forward to staying at Pop again. I can see that if you generally want to have days spent at the resort, resort pool, etc. that the mods and deluxe are much nicer for that - but for the room (and I like the QS dining area- all the choices) then Pop has its advantages. I was not a fan of the All Stars last I was there - wow were the rooms looking old. - not sure if they're getting the same makeover.
