Nerf party???

Anyone ever throw a Nerf party for their child and/or have their child attend a similar party? NO FLAMES PLEASE! Just want to know if any parents took issue with the "gun" theme or if most just took it as a fun boy themed party. Thinking about throwing one of these for my soon to be 10 yr old DS. Thinking I'll just ask all the kids to bring their Nerf guns if they have them (if not we have several extra they can borrow) buy tons of extra nerf darts, set up some mini barricades outside then let them battle it out. Breaks for pizza and cake. Hour and a half/2 hours total.

My sons attended a nerf gun party. In our area kids playing with guns and learning to hunt is very common so I don't think anyone thought twice about it. They asked the boys to bring their own guns and when they got there they put their names on them with masking tape. I can't remember if they did anything besides just nerf gun wars, I'll have to ask my boys when they get home from school.

We've never held or been to a nerf party but if my ds10 got invited to one I think he would be over the moon.

I certainly wouldn't have a problem letting my kids attend one

Mine too!

We have had many friends over at one time and they all play with the nerf guns. I don't think any parent in my area would have an issue with that kind of party.

My 12 year old went to one last year. It was inside in a church gym area. I don't know exactly what they did as far as games or just free for all but it looked like they were having fun!

My son went to one a few years ago. It was held a the moms kick boxing gym so they got to hide behind the bags.

All the kids loved it!

Sounds like a lot of fun!! My 9 yr. old would love it! I don't think you would have any problems with it.

Thanks for the input everyone. I do appreciate it. Our back yard is not huge, but it is fenced in, so it should be fine.

my DS is to young to enjoy one of those parties, but my cousin love nerf guns! that actaully sounds like alot of fun! i should pass this party idea onto my aunt for her sons next birthday.

I LOVE the idea. Never been to one, but most boys of all ages love those things. We bought one for my 4year old AND 19 year old the other day when we traveled without them!!

DS4, does have one friend who has a mom that would freak out over the gun issue but I think those are few and far between at least around here. (NC). I would have nerf gun party somewhere on the invite and let any parent that has an issue make the choice as to come or not. Let us know what all you plan as far as food,etc. I can so see doing one of these for our little one in a couple of years!

My DS (now 13yo) would have LOVED attending a Nerf party a few years ago.

We honestly had every Nerf gun ever made & hundreds of those darts...orange ones, white ones, even ones that glow in the dark.

Sounds like a great idea. Heck, my 8 year old DD would love one.

I have friends who have done Lazer tag parties as well as paintball parties with no issues. If the parents don't like it than they don't have to send their child is the way i see it.

We're an "anti gun" family here yet at a certain age you just have to understand that kids are fascinated by guns and no matter how much you try to shield them from it they will make them out of what ever they can find (lego, pipe cleaners, you name it! ). We actually do allow nerf and some play guns, better to alleviate the curiosity and talk vs something stupid happening because they were older and came across one.

That said, mine would be thrilled to go to a nerf party and often ours get pulled out at play dates and impromptu wars are staged int he back yard. The 2 things I would be prepared for are kids bringing their own darts and missing some darts when its time to go, and having someone on stand by to handle jammed guns (pass one of your stand by's to the kids while someone un jams theirs).

A game mine love to set up in the back yard (and often in the playroom ) is target practice. They take cans (or legos or dominos - you name it) and put them on ledges and try to shoot them off. They race each other to see who can eliminate their targets 1st. You could easily do color coded cans on a deck railing and the 1st kid who's colors are all knocked down wins.

I am the mom of 2 owners of a Nerf arsenal of weapons. Not purchased with my money. Mostly, birthday gifts. My boys LOVE them.

We had a Nerf party for my 10 year old this Aug. It was at an Inflatables Party Center (Pump It Up). We had ages 13 - 1 year olds, boys and girls. Everyone had a great time. The kids that wanted to play with Nerf guns did. If they were too young, old, or not interested, they jumped on the inflatables.

The parents also had fun shooting darts at the kids as they ran past.
