Nemo Show - No Plan to ReOpen (Updated 9/14)

Why can't they show the old Nemo show while developing the new one?
With a ride, I understand, they have to tear down the old one to make room for the new one. But a show?
Depending on how much they change, you've got some physical logistics (massive props/sets and even potentially stage mechanics) as well as the need to have cast doing rehearsals around a packed show schedule. They'd surely have to take if BACK offline at some point before premiering the new version anyway.

I'm sure it would be possible to bring it back, but it would probably introduce a lot of complications and they'd rather just build excitement toward the update.

so they're spending money to update the show.....not to worry something else will arrive to complain about without any official word.

To be fair, even the cast were making public statements mourning the end of the show. That may not have been exactly official, but it was rather definitive. I hope these wonderful actors have chance to be rehired for the new show.

Your hyperlink not withstanding, Search for 'Nemo' or 'Finding Nemo' on Disney website and:

1.) The Nemo Show is not provided with the 40 & 251 other 'results', respectively.

2.) Look at Animal Kingdom Entertainment - Nemo show is not a option.

3.) Look at Animal Kingdom Attractions & Rides - Nemo Show is not an option.

4.) Look at all Disney Entertainment & Shows - Nemo show is not an option.

I had no trouble finding it .... but I guess it doesn't matter now that Disney has posted it's not going anywhere.

The Tony Award for 1998 Best Costumes, Lion King, went to Julie Taymor.....who also Directed the show.

He was the Co-Designer with Taymor of the puppets.

to be fair, this is a repeated theme here and pretty much in every walk of life. People see one headline or one link, if it jives with their pre conceived notions then it gets re posted, commented on whereas with a little patience you could wait for official word. People are inpatient. There's plenty of time to complain after the fact. There's no need to start with the hilarious Six Flags comparisons the second something seems to be cut. I saw someone say how some of the Lion King show was cut, yeah, they can't find anyone to do the aerial stunts right now. That's not making a corn dog, you can't find someone that easy to do it. If you want more attractions, updates etc, those are paid for with profits. Galaxy's Edge and al the other additions over the past decade weren't charity and if you add attractions the value of your admission is going to rise or what is the point?

Just to use Disneyland, how on earth would you expect to pay the same for admission at Disneyland after Galaxy's Edge as you did before. They literally added more SQF to the park and two E-ticket attractions. Same with hollywood studios. DCA, they "reimagined" Bugs Life land, I'd call the new area an upgrade and worth more for the price of admission. We an debate stuff like AH tickets and some are getting a little ridiculous but that Oogie Boogie Bash tix/value proposition looks pretty good to me, 8 hours in the park dozens and dozens of character interactions and $30 worth of candy plus access to the newest attraction anywhere in the world.

yeah, the cast has been served with close of show, so that part was correct. The performers were probably not informed at the time that the show would be changed and reopened. If there are parts for them in the new show, they will probably be able to audition if they'd like. However, Disney isn't going to keep them on contract while they stay dark for months to revamp the show. I hope the new show has parts for at least some Equity actors.

I’m usually quite optimistic about changes at WDW and always look for a bright side. Unfortunately this past year has delivered a series of gut-punches that have taken their toll, especially in the area of live entertainment. If people were afraid the show they liked was gone forever, it’s in large part because that’s the way Disney has been doing things lately, as a part of their big “Covid Reset.” After so much unwelcome news, an audience can be primed to believe the worst. :sad1:

I’m so glad that this was a true false alarm! A little good news is much needed right now! Hopefully a lesson for the future. :-)

I think people tend to forget that contracts and public opinion exist and companies need to respond to them. If you aren't going to run a show for months more, you cancel contracts and start over once you know what that show is going to look like and what performers will be needed. That doesn't mean the show is going away forever, it just means the current contracts are. If people are constantly complaining and commenting to the company about something that is missing, they may announce the product is canceled. It does not mean that it's gone forever, it just means that it is gone for now. I think people are quick to complain about things without knowing the full truth right now.

I’m so glad that we were able to tour the parks back in 2010-2013 when our kids were their prime age.

Even back then people on these boards complained about how things had degraded from their wonder years, but if they could fast forward to 2021 this is a whole different level.

Edit: glad to see that a new version is coming back. My comments above still stand though.

I really hope the new version isn't a smaller cast, and less timed show like they have done to Lion King. We love both these shows and would not miss them on any trip. I watched the "new" version of The Lion King this summer and it's a one and done for me now. If it is just shortened during covid, I understand. If it is permanent, it's a terrible shame. Just not the emotional connection and response as the original. I guess if Disney is going after once in a lifetime trip people then this works well for them.

I would not mind if they cut about 10 minutes off that show. However, there are a lot of other things they could do if they wanted to cut back on paying performers. I also hope the LK change is just for COVID and the show might be restored one day.

Nothing in the Nemo announcement said 'spending more money'.

Nothing says when the show will return either - which still means one less ride/attraction.

Lion King was updated. Half the show & cast were removed. Cost? Nope, savings.

And yet another reason why that website is banned on here. No idea why people continue to use them as a source.

If it is the site that I think you are referring to, they were correct. The show was closed. Now a replacement show was announced, but the show as it was is no more.

I am not sure why that website gets disparaged on here so much, but I have no problem with them reporting news and rumors. This board has an entire forum dedicated to rumors.

That's my fear and based on recent history, it seems more likely than not that it will happen. The rumor was true, the current show is closed and gone forever. They can give the new show the same name, much like they did FOTLK, but that won't make it the show it was.

they parts cut from Lion King were the aerial acrobats....This shouldn't be hard to understand. They don't have the talent to do that currently, doesn't mean it's gone for good. Perhaps the new show at Disney Springs got some of those acrobats. They said Nemo is returning in 2022, so there's that timetable and if you're reworking the show, there's a cost if they're not running out the same old puppets and animatronics, although I'm sure there will be some repurposed. People should just take the L on this one, there will be something to overreact to tomorrow.

My new favorite "complaint" is "there's not 50 statues, just 50 characters because.....money" WHO SAID THEY HAD TO HAVE STATUES AT ALL? If they were smart they'd auction these statues off after the anniversary and get 10x their money back but my guess is they won't. When they take apart Splash Mountain they could sell all those components, but they won't. Not everything is about Money. You need to have the people to do things and people who are qualified to do them. A show perfumer is not the same as someone monitoring magic band scans at the front gate. A lot of Circus like performers are from other countries as well as a lot of staff at Epcot. International travel not so easy right now or immigration for that matter.

One thing they've been quiet on that I think deserves attention or complaints is what is going on with Fantasmic.....there's a lot of characters in that too and maybe staffing is an issue there but they seem to have plenty of characters out in Anaheim so I think that deserves some complaints especially at Land that doesn't have Harmonious and Enchantment coming or nightly fireworks ever.
