Nemo at CBR

From the article:

(FYI: There's a lot more to these redos than just the new "Finding Nemo" quilts & wallpaper borders. Each room will be equipped with a brand-new flat screen television as well as having their fridges removed. A new armoir, two chairs and a shower curtain will be added to each unit. Not to mention removing all of the bedframes and then replacing them with bed boxes).

Did I read this correctly? Is CBR losing the fridges? That was a huge perk of staying in a moderate!

You have to take alot of what Jim Hill writes with a grain of salt. I am sure that the people on the rumors board will attest to this as well.

I agree....however, the pics speak for themselves concerning the make-over.

Just because there are or were pictures does not mean that the re-themeing is actually in the works. It may have been something that had been considered in the past.
The bed spreads and the curtains are actually not too bad, I could do without the border on the wall.
The Pirates themed family suites sounds a bit over the top, but again Jim Hill's "reports" are based on rumors, and some of the info can be old and the ideas thrown out, but the information was just recently dug up.

According the article..."Just last week, the first 32 units at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort received the "Finding Nemo" retreatment." Can someone confirm this?

I don't really have a problem with Disney hotels having Disney characters. :confused3 I consider DISNEY-PIXAR to be Disney.

I personally found the old decor at CBR to be rather gaudy. I'd consider checking it out if the Pirates theme comes to be!

I think the idea itself seems awesome; however when you think about it a re-theming of this resort may come at the detriment of a decrease in occupancy rates. CBR was a favorite among many for its Caribbean island theming not for its pixarfication. If people really want to be around larger than life toys they can stay at one of the all star resorts or pop century. I think moderate resorts are in a category of their own, as they are still affordable for families who want a relaxing stay in an awesome themed environment. Changing the lobby over to larger than life toys, will definitely change their Caribbean island theme, and cause customers to rethink their hotel choices. But, this is just my opinion.

You hear the phrase "the dumbing down of attractions" all the time. This seems to be the first time this has happened to a Disney resort. It's aggravating to me personally because my wife loves the beachiness of the resort and now will be forced to consider the more pricey beach club.

What a shock!!! CBR was my favorite resort....the rooms had so much more storage area with the ability to store under the beds and the large TV storage unit......I loved the fact that it had the "feel" of Nassau...an island theme.....I hope the make-over is only a rumor!!!!

Why would they take out the fridges?

Sure hope they aren't really taking out the fridges...that's what totally sold me to stay there while I've been planning my 12/09 trip.

New TV's --very good idea. If it's true, taking out frig--very bad idea. The Mods should have fairly similar amenities.

The theming, while it's cute, it's a big change from a tropical theme that was nice for adult couples, as well as families with kids. If the entire resort goes Nemo, it may not be as appealing to couples as it was.

Does CBR still have mini-bars? I've always preferred hotel rooms without them.
If they have been removed, has that left the resort without refrigerators either temporarily or permanently?

The removing of the fridges is what caught my attention too. That would be horrible!

And if they take them out at one mod resort, you know they will take them out of ALL the mod resorts soon after.:sad2:

Not any more, they've switched from bed frames to bed boxes (easier to clean the rooms that way, I guess).

Re-read the article. The "Andy's Room" lobby was from an abandoned 2001 proposal for an "Animation"-themed hotel.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of the cartoon makeover. The wallpaper makes me think "pediatrician's office", not $150-a-night hotel.

My DH and I stayed at CBR in Nov 2004 and had a very nice stay. Yes, the rooms seemed a little worn, but nothing terrible. A refurb is probably in order by now. I don't think the bedspread and curtains are too bad. I actually think they look kind of nice. However, I think the border is awful! I also can't believe they're going to do away with the fridge. I can't help but wonder if this is just to be able to charge an extra $10/night like at the values? Besides price, what will be the difference between a moderate and a value? I hope some of that is just a rumor.
