DIS Dads Nemesis Challenge 2

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
wow I never realized how out of shape I was ( well I always thought I had a nice shape,Nice and round) .Last night I set up runkeeper. Seems to be a nice app I think a lot of us are using. So I figured I would get up early and start my couch to 5k !! Well this morning I woke up a little earlier then normal went to get out of bed and got thee worst charley horse I have ever had.So it seems I am going to have a real up hill battle to do this.My calf is still burning. So I had to hold off on starting again. The good news is I am down a pound and a half!!!! so at least my sit ups are working!!! Now if I can only put 1+1 together I will e in good shape.
I have talked to my partner Steve he has started his program also.

No you don't have to relieve yourself in public unless you choose too. Before the full several of us opted to use the bushes prior to the race. We walked to the edge of the woods and began "to irrigate the forest". It all got really awkward when I looked farther into the woods and realized I was face to face with a woman who was also avoiding the porta potty lines. That's not a fun way to meet people

:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

Did you at least say hello!:rolleyes1

Don't push yourself too hard in the beginning! You'll get hurt!

That being said, my ankle is hurting me this am. Hoping that a day of rest, better stride and new shoes help with that for this weekends run!

You could of crossed first, grabbed their attention, then let me, Chris, and his cousin cross. :lmao:
Makes sense. They wouldn't be able to catch me and my blazing speed!

Thanks... I remember hearing you couldn't walk. But what we went throught to get there was ridiculous.
Bambi said that when they were leaving the resort at around 5 there were plenty of people walking right out the front entrance of OKW and going straight to the corrals. So while you're not supposed to do it, it appears that some still do.

Push myself??? I havent been able to do anything lol.I went for the one walk and that was it.My knee is still sore from Disney, charley horses from just from thinking of working out.
The only thing I am doing now is sits ups.
the couch to 5k eases you into it very slowly. Its just a matter of getting the darn thing started.!!!

:rotfl2::rotfl2: I actually had that happen in 2010, some guy was stretching, about 15 feet into the woods in the parking lot at Epcot, wearing all dark clothes, in the exact spot I went to "irrigate the forest". I didn't see him at all. He's lucky he spoke up at the last second, is all I can say...
That. Is. Funny.

Nov 5-12! :cool1:

that is the week we went this year. :thumbsup2

My ankle arch has been hurting since Saturday. Hopefully a few more days of rest and I can get riding the bike or something. My original hurt spots don't seem to be too painful which I am thankful of.

You're not supposed to bring back your resort mugs either. :rolleyes1

Who should I ask to book me a studio at OKW next year? :confused3 :hyper:

Don't go crazy to start. If nothing else stretch on the days you aren't running, it takes only a few minutes but it will help you in the long run. (pun intended!)

OK.....why is there a TP shortage and why would you want to keep some with you while you run....:scared1:
Lots of people pooping before the race>>>>> TP shortage. Just trying to shed one last pound or two.
DON!!!!!!
NO!! Nemesisii just leads to superfluous posting! Fight the power!!

Really? I've already been trying to find some races I can do once I can walk normal again. :rotfl2:
Yeah, I was ready to swear of running due to how horrible I felt. But I went to the doctor yesterday and he says it is very likely that Augmentin is to blame for my nausea. Apparently it is notorious for messing up people's GI tract.
So you went from not running, to running, to doing the Goofy in like 5 minutes. :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2:
Yep. Feeling better. Already found a 10k in mid feb and a half-marathon trail run in mid-march. I repeat- if Joey Fatone can do it, so can I.
Barry was taking pictures of people lined up at the woods. We saw plenty of ladies doing their business too. :rolleyes2
For the record, I don't think Barry took pictures of the ladies.

Hi, my name's Ryan and I'm a Pisces. Pee around here often?

You could of crossed first, grabbed their attention, then let me, Chris, and his cousin cross. :lmao:

My cousin could run past them and they'd never catch her. Can you believe she weighed 260 pounds not too long ago?

At least you hopefully found the cause. No fun while you are trying to run.

Yep. Feeling better. Already found a 10k in mid feb and a half-marathon trail run in mid-march. I repeat- if Joey Fatone can do it, so can I.
I might be able to run the 1/2 then walk/run the full. That sounds like torture.. but that Goofy medal is AWESOME!

For the record, I don't think Barry took pictures of the ladies.
Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing. :scratchin

That is amazing. Now she weighs like 100lbs and runs like the wind! :rotfl2:

Actually i averted my eyes and pretended not to see her.

Nov 5-12! :cool1:

Wow that would have been horrible for that guy. Running a marathon smelling like just got pee'd on would be miserable.

Barry was taking pictures of people lined up at the woods. We saw plenty of ladies doing their business too. :rolleyes2

I don't think I'd want to have to explain to DW why I took pictures of people peeing.

Stretch, stretch, and stretch some more. Before and after you run/walk.

I am really paranoid about GI issues. If I run in the morning I'll only have a Gu before I run.

In the PT community static stretching before you run is something that is going out of vogue as it appears that it does little and can actually open you up for
more injury. They seem to be recommending dynamic stretching instead.
And example of a dynamic stretch routine for before running would be.

10 steps with high knees
10 steps bringing your heels to your butt
10 walking lunges
10 steps on your heels pointing your toes up
10 steps on your toes
10 walking lunges

Static stretching is great after you run. Taking a hot bath in epson salt it also really great. I also have compression tights, shorts and calf sleeves and socks that I wear to help recovery after particularly hard runs. The tights or socks are a great way of getting lactic acid out of your lower legs. Foam rollers or the stick are good for rolling out your legs. I have a friend that has one of the spiky foam rollers and that seems to work the best. A frozen bottle of water is also good for rolling out your arches particularly if you are starting to have pain there.

I might be able to run the 1/2 then walk/run the full. That sounds like torture.. but that Goofy medal is AWESOME!
If your going to torture yourself at a race Disney is the place to do it. There are plenty of things to stop and do if you are going to walk some and the crowd support is great. If you do the training for the marathon you'll have enough endurance to do Goofy. It is a fairly big time commitment though particularly in November and December.

I want to Thank all you Runners for post such great information you've been posting on running here an over in the Pub.. We newbies are finding it very helpful.

An it's scaring the Peanut Butter out of me! :scared1:

But I'm not giving up! If I can't run it. I'll walk it! If I can't walk it, I'll crawl it!

Runners? Does that include me & Barry? :lmao::lmao:

You can do it Randall! Small steps and slow to start. Don't rush yourself, take your time and it will come.

It's just all this talk about hurting after the run and what to do. Well, I hurt just typing this, so why do I need to run?!? :lmao:

Here's how I see it...

In Jan 2008, I looked like this...

I didn't like the way I felt then, so a year later I looked like this...

Will you slow down so I can see what you'll look like? Geesh.:lmao:

We'll all do it together Randall. It seems all the talk and run (pun intended) up to the DDC has gotten a lot of us Dads in the mood to give it a shot and start training. The support group is awesome. Going to try to walk run over 2 miles tonight. Let you know how it goes.
