Very discouraged.......
1.53 miles in 26:19
17:15 average per mile

My shins are sore as crap now...they were already sore from yestgerday but I did it again today...could hardly walk into the driveway...is there hope or not?? Amy I just fooling myself?

Don't be discouraged, it takes a little while to develop your running base. once you get comfortable with a few miles the rest starts to come a lot easier. Hang in there.

Right foot, left foot. :thumbsup2

the shoes will help, but dont over do it, same advice you might need to take a day or more off...

Actually, I feel good today. Ankle & shins much better. Going to do my run this afternoon sometime

Honestly, I think you need to take a day or 2 off in-between runs. There is no sense pushing yourself at the beginning, getting hurt, then getting discouraged. Take it slow.

That's very good advice. Your body needs time to recover between runs. That being said taking a walk is a good way to keep everything loose. You might want to shoot for a 15 to 20 minutes walk in between running days.

I'm confused...is "kids Christmas money" like money they from Grandma & Grandpa for Christmas...or money that your and DW have set aside to buy Christmas presents for the kids? Because taking from one seems a whole lot worse that raiding the other...

I've read that you should get 300-400 miles per pair of shoes. After I paid $100 for my initial pair at the Fleet Feet store, I bought my second pair online (overstock.com I think) for around $50.

I wondered about the kids Christmas money comment. Assumed it was money he got from his kids for Christmas. ( I need to get wealthier kids so I can get some of that)

Once you know what types of shoes you like buying online is much cheaper. Once you know whether you need a neutral or a stability shoe buying online is much easier. Running warehouse has a special discount for disboarders and they clear out a lot of shoes. Joesnewbalanceoutlet is great for new balance shoes. They offer discounts in general, and then have on type of shoes heavily discounted every day. 300 to 500 miles is a good rule of thumb but your mileage will vary based on your weight and the specific shoes you bought. To get the most mileage out of your running shoes you should only wear them while you are training.

Don't be discouraged. It can be very hard in the beginning. Take it slow follow a program and don't push yourself too hard. With all the talk about teams it can seem like this is a competition. Running is very much an individual sport. You are an experiment of 1. You need to figure what works for you, you are your only real competition. I know it hurts now but it does get better and you will start having victories week after week. YOU CAN DO THIS. You have a lot of time to build up your base, just don't go out too fast.

A friend of mine told me about roadrunnersports.com that sells discounted running shoes. Once you get fitted, you can search online and find the same shoe for a lot less ching. :cool2:

Nice speed Doc... now you have to work on endurance... maintain that speed for 13.1, and you'll be finishing the half in less than 3 hours. :thumbsup2

good job everyone!!! Keep it up!

I got a little road work in this afternoon......

talking about running shoes, im not a runner but i got a pair of mizuno waves last year before we went to wdw. after walking a few miles, my lower back, feet, ankles would kill me. i tried everything. i went into a shoe store anf the sales kid said, you have to try these on, you will never wear another pair of sneakers again!! ok, what the heck. i tried them and wow!!!
tammy always had a problem with heel spurs and she got TWO pair of the mizunos and she has never a had problem since walking around.
just my two cents, try them out if you get into a shoe store.:thumbsup2

2 more miles today in just over 35 minutes. Have been walking on days between. knee feels good. Hamstring has been letting me know it is not happy. The soreness goes away after some stretching and warm up so going to keep going.

Nice job.
For some reason when I look at that image i hear Yackety Sax in my head.

Am scheduled to start my RunKeeper 5K training program today.

it's -2 degree Celsius (or 28.4 Fahrenheit for the rest of you).

Got my sweatshirt, running pants, hats an gloves... went outside to start, made it to the end of my driveway, noticed the road was a sheet of ICE! :furious:

Came back inside.

Will have to wait until this afternoon, or back on the treadmill. :(

Wanted to get off of the treadmill, into the real world... oh well... still got 11 months and 3 weeks before the deadline.

I'm with you brother! Cold out there! There's plenty of time to get outside. Nice try!

Still feel good today after my weekend run. Ankle sore when I woke but feels better with stretching out
