I wouldn't try on some ice... No need to injure yourself.... If your stuck inside on some days jack up the incline on that treadmill so you build some more leg strength....
28f NO WAY I AM GOING OUT IN THAT!!! BURRRRRRRRRRR

Am scheduled to start my RunKeeper 5K training program today.

it's -2 degree Celsius (or 28.4 Fahrenheit for the rest of you).

Got my sweatshirt, running pants, hats an gloves... went outside to start, made it to the end of my driveway, noticed the road was a sheet of ICE! :furious:

Came back inside.

Will have to wait until this afternoon, or back on the treadmill. :(

Wanted to get off of the treadmill, into the real world... oh well... still got 11 months and 3 weeks before the deadline.

It was 50 degrees here today so we got outside to shoot some hoops earlier. Expect to drop to low 30's and windy tonight by game time and then just keep dropping. Thanks to all the Canadian dads for sending the cold weather:headache:

Hey I am putting out another Nemesis Challenge.

Me and Scott? Hell No...!!!

I think Barry and Tim should step up the ante and go for the FULL Marathon next year? Thank goodness I won't have to run that one.

What do you guys think?

Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhh...that's already been vetoed. While training for the half last year I let a lot of household projects go unfinished. My family was very supportive of my running, but I've already been informed that if I even think about training for 26.2 miles that not only would I be going solo to the next DDCC, I'd be solo while waiting for my every other weekend visitation with my children.

I'll do it if you (& Barry) do it. popcorn::

I'd like to be able to run the 1/2 with a sub 2:10 time before I get stupid and try to run a full. pirate:

I need to get outside and run...

I have NO CLUE about pacing...

I ran the DAY 1 of the 5K training plan today on my treadmill.

I had the iPhone with me keeping pace (I guess it counts steps and movement).

Anyways I was supposed to run 1.5 miles.

The tread mill said it took about 21 minutes, for exactly 1.5.

The app however said I went 2.82 miles in the same time... Uggggg... I have no clue what I really ran.

Using the APP on the tradmill is usually less accurate than the treadmill. The app is basing distance on using the accellerometer to track steps like a pedometer. In order for that to be kind of accurate you need to calibrate it. Most running apps give you the ability to enter the amount that you actually ran after a run. That will help caibrate it to your stride length so it should be more accurate. It will likely never be perfectlu accurate on a treadmill.

Even the GPS's aren't perfect When we run in a group we'll have people using GPS watches, and GPS apps on the phone and they never seem to track exactly the same.

Ryan when you are using theGPS apps how "off" ore the distances that they record??

I'd trust the reading on the treadmill. After all, the manufacturer calibrated it to work that way. Like Ryan said, using the iPhone as an accelerometer/ pedometer is not going to be very accurate.

In my opinion, they're not very far off - maybe a 5-10% variance at the most. I usually run in either residential areas (two story houses and some trees) or along the lake, where I have a very clear shot to the satellites. I did one run in downtown Milwaukee and the tall buildings did mess up my GPS a little. I checked the map it created afterward and it had me running through the middle of blocks, then weaving north and south when I was going straight east. But overall, using RunKeeper on my iPhone has been quite accurate. We're not launching missile strikes with these readings, we're training for a race. :thumbsup2

Scheduled to walk today, but with how cold it is, I think I'll just sit and spin.

Yeah, my run will be a bit cold this evening! Fortunately, I'm only 15 minutes still. DW was going with me today but I think she'll pass with the cold. She signed up for the Tough Mudder this May and although she's in excellent shape, she's not a runner (and the Tough Mudder has 10 miles of running)

Oh, and check out my new countdown in my sig!

Nice addition!

It seems to vary. I ran 12 miles this weekend with DW her phone had us pegged at 11.2 miles mine had us at 12. That was an extreme instance though. Most times the variance seems to be in 3-5% range. In general my stuff seems to under-report the distance I've run.

I agree. The varience isn't that big that its going to mess people up.

Ran a mile in 12:55. 1 minute run, 2 minute walk ratio. Feel good. Easier today but still whipped. And in 21 degrees!
