The idea is good...and some people may be able to keep up with it...but I tried it for a bit and you're supposed to scan every single thing that you buy. This was around mid 2003 when I was doing this. If I remember right, you have to punch in what category of item it was. Took waaaay too long to put my groceries away. I maybe did it for two months and sent the thing back.

I do and it is a lot of work for a very small payout. The payout is always stuff too, no gift cards or paypal. When I say a lot of work--they want you to scan everything, many things need more input from you-- so it isn't just scan and go. You have to download each week or you will get nasty postcards in the mail. When I say the payout is poor--it took a year to earn enough to get the Wii gaming accessories--the tennis racket, wheel, golf club and bat???

If you are bored and want something else to do each time you shop and one time per week then go for it, but don't plan on getting anything good with your points for a really long time.

I just joined Homescan last month. Yes I agree it will take awhile for the points to get some of the good stuff in the reward catalog. But the points get larger the longer you are in the program.
It doesn't matter how much or how little stuff you scan. You start out at 150pts. per week/per transmission and it increases after 3months/6months/1yr/2yrs/etc. and extra pts. after 4 transmissions per months.
They send you the scanner, recharger, books all free of charge and free shipping - then when you have something break (my recharger wouldn't work - sent back free). They also have online surveys for 150 pts. per week. The few weeks I have been a member, I have 3200+ pts already, but the rewards start out at 9,000 pts.
