I am thinking of becoming of a DVC member, but this contract is very one sided. I was wondering if anyone had any success in negotiating some better terms.

I.E.:
Longer point retention
Lock in on maintenance rate
Lock in on perks
anything?

Are you talking about a resale or direct through Disney?

You must be kidding, no there is no negotiation.
To put it another way, it's their way or the highway!

There is no negotiation. You either accept the terms like everyone else, or you don't buy. Interesting first post though.

Um . . . to put it politely, no. No negotiations on the points you listed. You might night negotiate price and closing costs through resale, but direct through Disney there's not even that (although they do pay your closing costs).

Can't hurt to ask about tickets, bonus points for the first year, or something else that would be an immediate incentive.

And.........

I heard something about free ice cream when you are there with the guide.

Sometimes you can negotiate a second scoop of ice cream, or some fast passes. Mostly the ice cream.

lol, one-sided. Come on. Back under your bridge!

You need to drink more of the DVC Kool-Aid.:drinking1 If you do, you won't be asking such crazy questions.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Just kidding!!!

Dennis-

When I first bought my OKW points in '93 or '94) (150...just after my divorce...my first independent purchase), Disney was bending over backwards to get folks in. As I recall, for about five years, every trip I made included free passes to ALL the parks. I gave many folks their first taste of Disney, in short five-night stays in OKW's roomy studios, and all of us got in the parks "free." I remember once about 10 years ago, I spent most of my time in the room, listening to the fountain outside our room, waching movies (I would take a VCR and hook it up), even passing on the free trip parks. I remember my syster looking at me lying in bed as I declined going to MGM and saying, "That's bad." I still say that sometimes when I can't believe a situation.

About six years ago, when my money got very, very tight, I had to sell my 150 OKW points. At that time, I got even a bit more than those points cost me, and I thought (gratefully) to myself...I had all these wonderful trips for the maintenance fees and a bit of lost interest.

Now that my money situation is better, I have bought back in (resales), and have successfully negotiated decent deals. Now waiting to hear on ROFR on several new contracts.

This is one of the very few advantages of being a little ole lady...remembering the good old days of free park admission for dvcers.:surfweb:

PS - I too will never stay in a studio again.

OH...I FORGOT. I also got a DVC license plate as a perk...still on the front of my 1988 pink Mary Kay caddy (I bought used), Molly.:lovestruc

Rules provide for no exceptions, to be fare to everyone. Contract very protective of the quality product they wish to deliver. Enjoy the magic, as they will insure it is there for years to come.
If you like Disney, you won't be disaapointed. And probably want to buy more in the future, as you will run out of points for all the destinations you want to go.

If you purchase resale you would be able to present offer to the seller. The seller will either accept, counter or be firm at their price. Be advise that Disney does have Right of First Refusal and if the price is too low Disney wil buy it back. If you have any other questions please give us a call and we can have an associate try and assist you.

Best of luck to you.

Ask them if they could throw in a magic carpet too. Just for fun.
