When I first bought my OKW points in '93 or '94) (150...just after my divorce...my first independent purchase), Disney was bending over backwards to get folks in. As I recall, for about five years, every trip I made included free passes to ALL the parks. I gave many folks their first taste of Disney, in short five-night stays in OKW's roomy studios, and all of us got in the parks "free." I remember once about 10 years ago, I spent most of my time in the room, listening to the fountain outside our room, waching movies (I would take a VCR and hook it up), even passing on the free trip parks. I remember my syster looking at me lying in bed as I declined going to MGM and saying, "That's bad." I still say that sometimes when I can't believe a situation.
About six years ago, when my money got very, very tight, I had to sell my 150 OKW points. At that time, I got even a bit more than those points cost me, and I thought (gratefully) to myself...I had all these wonderful trips for the maintenance fees and a bit of lost interest.
Now that my money situation is better, I have bought back in (resales), and have successfully negotiated decent deals. Now waiting to hear on ROFR on several new contracts.
This is one of the very few advantages of being a little ole lady...remembering the good old days of free park admission for dvcers.
PS - I too will never stay in a studio again.
