Hi everyone,
Since my recent thread probably accounted for 50% of recent bad publicity for BCV, I just wanted to clarify that we still had an awesome time, despite the moving around. Right off the bat, what does that tell you? It must be a phenomenal place for us to come home with smiles (albeit tired ones) on our faces after all of the, ahem, activity!
On the bright side, we had magical memories: eating our first sundaes of the season at Beaches + Cream; watching our 3.5dd go around and around in the whirlpool with a huge grin on her face, ditto for river raft ride; watching our baby overcome her fear of water in the tidepool area; taking the last ressie at Teppanyaki knowing we could leisurely "smell the roses" in Epcot afterwards and then easily stumble into our beds; sitting in the swings at night on the beach looking at the lights over at the Boardwalk; the solace and the peaceful nature of the resort. I could go on...
The thought of staying at another resort has never crossed our minds, because you know, Murphy's law says that things happen!... especially where lots of kids and people are involved. May is a very popluar time for the Beach Club, with the F&W festival and SAB. A few months ago VWL were getting several negative reports, maybe the winter is a more hectic time for them. Given that we probably hear about every blooper on this board, it's amazing we don't hear more bad things! Furthermore, I don't think that anyone or anyplace should be judged strictly by whether a mistake happens, it is how people handle these bloopers that counts more to me. I published my thread primarily to highlight how beautifully the Beach Club manager handled a mistake made by a member of his staff, not to give the BC a black eye. And I certainly hope that this mistake that one person made does not somehow tarnish all of DVC, that would be ridiculous!
And the fact that someone was smoking in our non-smoking room was not really the Beach Club's fault, that could also happen anywhere if you think about it. Now, on the other hand, if they hadn't tried to help me get out of that room, I would be upset!! But the fact that someone was smoking in the room... well, I guess they could put special smoke detectors in the room and fine people. That would be the only way to avoid that problem.
And while the original room we were in was not for us, we have friends who specifically request that room. At BCV, you will sometimes need to choose between a room with a great view and a room that is perfectly quiet (if, for example, you have a baby as we do). (Although we stayed in a great room on the 5th floor last time that was both!) Because we do have small children who are light sleepers, we have learned from this experience just to not take chances with an Epcot view.... not a big deal!! Live and learn!!!
After all it cost the BC management to correct things for us, I really doubt this problem is likely to occur again anytime soon at BCV!!!
Anyway, don't worry! It is a wonderful, wonderful place! Really! Our solution is to consolidate our vacations while our children are small so we can relax more, because you know, with little kids something *exciting* and *unexpected* always seems to happen!!!
