I have no idea what counter service means? Does that mean we stand and eat? Or just no reservations?

Dd has trouble waiting for food to come out. Has trouble staying seated and eating with stimuli around. She ends up under the table or crying because I won't let her get up. Either all of that OR she is upset by other diners noises.

So generally we eat in the car and only do drive-throughs. It is rare that we eat in and I am always nervous about doing it. (We have had to leave a number of times before)

So can we get carry out in Disneyworld and return back to our resort room to eat? We plan on having breakfast in our room anyway. I do have one character dining set up but just one. Or can we order and have it brought to our room? This doesn't sound feasible. Or too expensive for us.

I don't really want to be running back and forth to the room but I also do want us to be able to sit down and eat without getting upset. Inside eating is better than eating at a bench or picnic table outside--I would be worried about dd running off into a crowd.

Since we will have a stroller, this may be easier and safer! If she eats in her stroller. Thank you for ideas on how to make this work! Any great spots to eat that are best, less crowds.

Thanks!

Counter service is Like going into a McDonalds or other fast food places

you get in a line, place your order and pay- then move ahead to a counter to pick up food, then go and hunt down a seat

they can be very noisy and loud- they can be very crowded.

Room service at a value resort is basically pizza and a salad
Deluxe has room service-

Every resort has a food court which at the wrong times can be very crowded & very loud. you can get take out boxes from your resort food court and head back to your room

you can get to go boxes for take out in the parks but to get from MK or other parks back to a resort unless you are on the monrail line can take up to an hour if it's crowded

maybe packing snacks to hold you over and eating at off times like 3 p.m. may be a good idea. Maybe giving your DD something to nibble on while waiting for food will help ?? ( I am just tossing out ideas here)

the stroller should help (I may be wrong,so someone correct me please if I am) I think you need to get it marked stroller as a Wheelchair and then you should be able to go in to get food with the stroller. CM's will help carry your tray for you. Just tell the cashier you need assistance.

Maybe Casey's at MK as you can try and get a seat outside- she can stay in her stroller and park her up to a table- the noodle station sin't open now but you can get to go from Caseys and head to the noodle station and sit and eat. there wouldn't be too many people around.

There are some places with outdoor seating and sometimes you can take a tray of food and go park on a bench away from crowds. You can use your laptop to check the menus or print out menus then read each day what you want to eat. You can look at the menu then tell dad what to get. A notepad would help him for that.

They have photos of restaurants.

See how Casey's is outdoors and you can take the food over to a park bench if you prefer. The place to get turkey legs at the studios is out doors also. There are plenty of counter service restaurants and they will let you take the food out to a park bench or other spot that is away from people.

Have to cut this short as mom is having a meltdown and hissy fit, sigh.

Yes - you can get a stroller as a wheelchair tag. There is information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread in post #6 about Guest Assistance Cards. That is how you get approval to use a stroller as a wheelchair.

Another suggestion - if she would calm down and wait better if she has something to eat while she waits, you could bring snacks into the park with her. Send someone else in your party to get the food from the counter service. Your daughter can eat the snack while you wait.
Also, I think you posted somewhere else that she did like her games and/or some things you were going to bring with you. Could she play those while waiting. Eating quite late or quite early will help you to avoid the crowds/noise. It might also help to wear her earphones to help dampen the noise.

Besides the information that was posted on allearsnet.com, they also have menus listed.
The DIS site also has menus - here's a link to the menu page.

We have a child that gets stressed ( when he gets to stressed he often will have a seizure) around alot of people and we had the same fear. We found that what worked best for us was to grab a peice of fruit, some milk, and what ever else at our resorts snack bar ( we stayed at the french quarter) the night before and keep it in our mini fridge. Then that morning we ate a light meal in our room. We would also come back to our resort before the lunch croud( around 11ish) and they will pack it for you so you can take it to your room. We would do the same for dinner or we would make table top reservations for aroung 4 so that it was not very crowded yet. I hope this helps you some.

I had planned on using the game for the plane ride but worry about losing it in the parks. Or it getting wet. Same with the mp3 player.I'll have a backpack but don't know how I am going to be getting on and off rides--where to put the backpack on the rides.

On the water rides you can shove items in your purse or a plastic bag or a small tote that is water proof. I use in DLR a plastic messenger bag with purse and everything. Waterproof and easily fits on the rides. Just find a small bag at home that fits the camera, purse, or what ever then look around for a waterproof bag. They make Zip Loc bags to fit small blankets, huge ones. Have in your stroller a bag with snacks, water bottles, toys and guidebooks or what ever. It will not be touched and when you go on a water ride the stroller will be on the loading dock waiting for you. Not many thieves around loading docks, lol.

DS is 19 but at the developmental age of a 18 month old. We use the stroller for him to eat in. DS does not like crowds either and has trouble eating when there is a lot going on around him. We usually find a nice shady spot near the restaurant. We bring a granola bars or something with us so he can start eating while one of us goes to get the food. We feed him in his chair and we just eat at a nice slow pace. There are many restaurants that have great counter service. You do not have to eat it right there. You can carry the trays to a quiet place. I know you had stated that inside is better than outside but inside is usually noisy. We love the BBQ restaurant in AK and take our trays over to the far side outside where it is quiet. In Epcot we go to the Rose Garden to eat. In MK we take our food over to the area by the Noodle restaurant. There are many quiet places to sit and eat. Don't forget about the First Aid stations. They are very quiet if you need a coll quiet place to rest for a few minutes. They also usually have a nice quiet bench outside of them that we have taken advantage of once or twice.
We never go anywhere withou a luggage strap to use to buckle DS to the chairs when we do eat in the restaurants. The strap is easy to use and just gives us security that he isnt going to escape or slide under the table.
We bring a small DVD player and tape player with us. I just use a ziplock bag for the water rides and carry a diaper type bag with us. Since DS is in a wheelchair or stroller for almost all rides the bag stays with the stroller. We take the stroller up to the loading area (GAC allows us to use do this) when DS gets on the ride a cast member takes the stroller to where he will get off. We have never had a problem with anything being stolen. The chair usually isn't parked in an area where there are lots of people.
Good Luck! If you want post where you are interested in eating, I am sure quite a few people can give you some hints!

I can tell you from personal experience that most people don't even see things at the exit. As much as possible, we try to keep our DD in her wheelchair for rides. For those rides, it means standing and waiting for the wheelchair accessible car to come around. In some of the newer attractions, the boarding is at the same place as everyone else boards. For some attractions, we wait in the regular line and then are taken to the exit for boarding right before regular line gets to boarding. At those attractions, we wait at the exit for the ride car. The majority of people never even see us, even though we are waiting in full sight.

I also had an interesting experience once on Haunted Mansion, which is a ride without a wheelchair accessible car. DD (who is a wheelchair user) and DH were in the doombuggy ahead of me. When we got to the exit, I got out to go get her wheelchair and bring it to the doombuggy. The CM forgot to stop the ride though, so DH and DD ran out of time and continued on a second trip. I spent an entire ride circuit standing in the exit behind a waist height wall. The wheelchairs were parked in a little alcove that everyone passes by as they exit. I don't think even one person saw me there. Most people are very focused on getting out of the attraction and on to their next ride. I would bet that if there had been someone about 20 feet from the exit asking people if they had seen either a person or a wheelchair at the exit, almost everyone would have said no.

But just think of all the fun you could have had jumping out and scaring the bejezeesus out of all manner of unsuspecting people!!! :scared1: Right ride for it anyway. :)
