We are driving down from Michigan because I am deathly afraid of airplanes. We are going to Disney in December. We are going to rent a car because we don't have a reliable car to take w/ us. I don't want to spend 300 bucks on a rental though. How can I get one cheapier? I would like to rent either something like an Impala, Malibu, or any Pontiac car (not SUV). Any suggestions on how to get a cheap rental for November 30-December either 9 or 10?

Just a down and dirty check with Hotwire for your dates, and Detroit the rental city/airport, comes up with a total of $258 for the time period. You could probably knock off another 20-30% and bid on Priceline. Good luck.

Also keep in mind that a lot of times the rental companies charge more if they know you're taking the car out of state. The last few times I rented I had to sign basically that it was an instate rental only.

What about auto-train? You wouldn't be putting the miles on your car, nor your body.

Lotta miles between Michigan and southern Virginia ....
