Hi--first time to this side of DIS and could really use some help! We had to cancel our trip to WDW this week because of some medical problems I had and now are looking to the future............
Let me just start by saying we are a small family, me 37, DH 44 and DD,14 months. We have never been to Disney but are avid tent campers and have used my inlaws popup on many occasions. What I am now thinking is possibly going to WDW and staying at Fort WIlderness.........but not till Dec 2006.

I have a few questions about pop ups and such was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction! We are looking at buying a used popup--just not sure what kind?? We have a 2004 Elantra and according to a web article I read tonight from Edmunds Edmunds top 10 list we can tow up to 3086 lbs with trailer brakes. Do all popups come with "brakes"? :confused3 I am so lost and my inlaws havent a clue-we always towed theirs with their Durango. I tried looking at other websites and I just get more lost...........I have a million other questions but will try not to ask all at once. Thanks everyone! :grouphug:

A good board for info is www.popupexplorer.com (chat area) they will be more than willing to answer all pop up questions. I was on their board before we purchased ours this last year and got tons of great info. They also have a section just on towing questions as well as general pop up questions.

Definitely go to popupexplorer.com. The forums there are AWESOME! You will get all your questions answered over there.

Not all pop-ups come with brakes. We had an old one that was only 900 lbs (empty) and used that for 10 years without brakes with no problem.

We purchased last year a new one that was 1800 lbs empty which did not come with brakes. We were told that by law you would need them only if your trailer was more than 2,000 lbs. Because we tow through the mountains and would rather be on the safe side, we had them installed. The cost for installation to the pop-up and the tow vehicle came to about $200.

If you work with a reputable RV dealer, they can be a great resource. Don't forget that your wheel bearings will need to be repacked about every 2,000 miles. Our local RV dealer takes care of this for us for about $70.
