dd3 1/2 took her own sweet time potty training. She was very deliberate in telling us she didn't want to. Then, in early December, she finally asked to. So we let her wear underwear, she went potty all day every day, NO accidents (even night time). She did go VERY VERY often, though. Small bladder??

Fast forward...a month later-- this past week or so, she wets her pants. She uses the toilet less often, which would be normal as she got better at it all. But now she, quite a few times per day, will insist she doesn't have any potty coming, but then 15 minutes later she is wet. Not a lot wet, only a little. But even then, she doesn't have to go potty. I had a big discussion with her today (kept it light)...does she know when her potty wants to come out? (Yes.) Does her potty ever hurt? (No.) ... Does she know when the potty got in her pants? (Yes, she tried to keep it in but it wouldn't stay.) She is in the house, not very distracted at all, so I don't think she is too busy to bother. (Could be wrong, I guess.)

Now, looking back, she was a little wet before getting to the toilet even when she was doing well, but it was not enough for us to change her clothing...and we thought she would start catching it quicker, you know? Well, WHAT is going on? No fever or malaise, no complaints of burning or pain (so probably NOT a UTI?) I am soooooo confused (of COURSE this is child #4, and the first one to go BACKWARD in potty training!!)

Does it just take a while to catch it BEFORE it leaks a little? Like I said, the other kids didn't do this so I am clueless. Doesn't seem like stubbornness, since she WANTS to keep trying. (And it is never a large amount like down the legs, it's JUST enough to get a wet spot through to her pants.)

Not really much wisdom to offer but seeing as how it is just a little wet would probably indicate she has some control over the potty coming out. If it were my kid I would probably consult the pediatrician just to make sure there is nothing going on. When my sister was younger she occasionally had potty trouble and turned out to be something with her urethra. Both she and my MIL both have to periodically go in and have it "stretched".

Thanks. I have been reading my med -surg books, and I really don't MIND that she is having this problem but I think I will definitely call the pediatrician, just to make sure there is nothing physical going on. DH and I were talking last night, and both of ius thought she was a long way from potty training last year, when we watched and noticed that she does urinate a little bit, often. So we were surprised when she DID it in December. And even then, she was in the bathroom about every hour. A little at a time. Thought she was just not sure when she was or was not going to really go, or that her bladder was just small still.

Anyway, I will give the ped a call today. Man, I wish (this will sound soooo selfish) that this had started a few weeks ago, new semester of RN school just started and I am panicked over lack of time. (Self pity over).
