I am booking last minute for a much needed escape. I'm going to cal DVC tomorrow and cross my fingers and toes and hope I can get something for the first week in August.

I plan on staying at OKW from Aug 6 to 8 and then Vero Beach Aug 8 to 10.
Yes I know last minute....but I really need to get away.

I've never been to Vero beach and would like to know about the studio rooms. I would like to get and Ocean VIew Inn Room.....but beggers can't be choosy. What is there to do in Vero beach and how is the beach itself. Any info would be great!!!

We stayed in an Inn room and it faced right out to the Ocean and was beautiful. There are 2 queen size beds and a microwave small frig and a coffee maker and toaster. 4 of us had no problem in the room. The beach is clean and small and we spent everyday in the ocean. There are plenty of activities at the resort for kids and great food on and off sight. :thumbsup2

Just got home Saturday from 2 nights at Vero following our cruise. We had an Inn Room 2423 I believe. It had a great balcony that looked out at the ocean and the room was HUGE!!! We own at BCV and while I love it !!! I have also stayed at OKW and found the rooms to be larger than BCV, but the room at Vero was the largest yet. Two queen size beds. Table and chairs, TV, kitchen area, large area by the bathroom sink.......
The ocean water was 83 degrees and the kid rented a boogie board to ride the waves. I collected many nice shells which I managed to get home safely. The best thing is the way you can go to the beach and then go to the pool. Truly the best of bothe worlds. I would suggest staking out a spot at the pool early - 9-ish. Everyone seemed to drop coolers on the tables and come back later. We found a great spot with some shade and bounced between the beach and the pool. There seemed to be many kids activities, but my DS (8) and DD (11) were quite content with the pool and ocean. We played mini golf. Thursday is Member Day so golf is FREE!!!!
We also rented a few videos, also FREE for Members (everyday). Couldn't imagine that we would rent videos with good weather, but things shut down pretty early. There is miminal outdoor lighting because of the turtles. There is also a bonfire on certain nights but it rained on the only night we could go. There is always next time because we will definitely return. - It was very beautiful!!!!!
Good luck getting your ressie and ENJOY!!!!

I think you should (think positive) get into VB Inn for those dates.... Ocean View may be pushing it. If I had a choice I would stay in the Inn room over a Studio (closer to the action) but that is my opinion. As for "what to do"... this is the best part.... do NOTHING and RELAX!! :rotfl2: Actually there are plenty of things to do for the kids, activities planned all day every day. Check the EB and Flo's board for daily events. There are some nice places to eat in VB proper for adult only dining (search the boards there are plenty of posts about them) about 10 mins away and some great family restaurants off site as well. As previous posters have stated Pool, Beach, Relax and sleep in (don't forget the Frozen Drinks ;) )

I agree with Mahusky. If you're thinking of a studio I'd go for the Inn room instead of the studio. We did a garden inn room this May (last second trip as well), and loved it. I already have a ressie for a ocean inn room for next May. Being in the Inn is nice because your there with the Green Cabin room, both resturants, laundry, and store. I thoughts I'd miss having the kitchen, and laundry, but it didn't bother me one bit, and I have a 4yr old and six month old at the time.

Eh, maybe... and maybe not.

We own at BWV and earlier this at the 7 month point year I booked a 2BR villa at Vero for 9 days starting on 8/4. Did it day by day then, and the CMs told me I was getting in "just under the window" for that type of villa at that time.

So, after reading the OP, and out of curiosity about how busy the resort will be during early August, I just went to several major travel sites (Expedia, Travelocity, etc) and "role played" trying to book anything (Villa or Inn room) at Vero during any of our 9 days. The only thing I could find for the OP's desired dates was a studio (on Hotel.com).

Now, I know from experience that these third party travel sites sometimes show no availability even when there is some (some of the major chains limit the number of rooms they'll allow online third parties to sell), but also know -- from reading these boards -- that Disney properties tend to only offer space through them as a "last gasp" to get rid of slow moving inventory. So in terms of getting an inn room, I unfortunately can't be quite as optimistic for the OP as Mahusky.

On the broader issue of villa vs. inn room at Vero, IMHO all the hype over inn rooms here really just boils down to those directly facing the beach. In terms of comfort and user friendliness for longer stays, they'll never be a substitute for a villa (with a DD 12 and DS 9, there's no way in heck my wife and I are going to choose an inn room over a 2BR villa for a nine day stay!!!), and some of the latter (many of the upper floor lockoffs and obviously the beach villas) also have ocean views, example below from a 1BR on the 4th floor:

In other words, you can have your cake and eat it to if you book early and make the right requests.

Thanks everyone for all the info. This getaway is going to be all about doing nothing.

I called DVC this afternoon and managed to get 3 days at OKW, but nothing is available for Vero, I'm on a wait list for an Inn room or studio. I'm not worried because...I'll just extend my stay at OKW, the CM that took my reservations said that OKW was wide open. I also have the option of staying a few days at a friends house that lives locally and what a house they have, I have my own suite.

I plan on just relaxing by the pool, definatley going to SSR's spa and playing some golf. As much as I love visiting the parks, I think I may pass on this trip, I need the rest. My doc tells me I need the rest before I crack.

I'll update if I get ressies for Vero. Thanks Again

Ok...Here's the update!!

My trip is booked and I don't think I ever paid $347 for airline tickets, but if its for my sanity what the heck.

I decided to stay at OKW from Saturday 8/5 to 8/9, and then some friends and I are going to head to Coco Beach. Maybe next time I can plan ahead and stay at Vero. Anyway it's hurricane season....and my luck the hurricane would head straight for VB, I wouldn't want to ruin it for everyone else.

Thanks everyone for the info!!
