Never thought I'd be saying this but.... I need help finding a hotel in Vegas for one night. We are driving across AZ and NV on our way to DL this summer. As we will be spending one night near the Hoover Dam, we thought it would be fun to spend that one night in VEGAS!! It probably won't cost any more and we can say we've been to Vegas. Plus it is only 30 minutes from Hoover Dam (according to Mapquest).

But now the problem arises... where to stay? I checked out some hotels on Travelocity and even though they look like cool hotels, I keep reading conflicting reviews. (Luxor, Circus-Circus, Stratosphere, Excalibur)

This is what I am looking for... #1.. strictly under $100 for the night for two adults and two children. #2. It would be fun to stay on "the" strip. #3. We won't really be gambling (although DH might like to hit a few slots, just to say he did it!), but some of the big casino hotels look like they have great themes. #4. I really just need a clean, reasonably priced room for one night, but it would be fun to stay in a themed hotel.

Any experienced recommendations out there? Please help......P

I think you should be able to find a strip hotel for under 100 bucks, especially if it is during the week.
We are staying at the Riviera in April for 69-99 bucks a night.
Have stayed in the flamingo. I can't remember what we paid. Itis definately more for the weekend.
Try hotels.com. Or LasVegastalk.com
I have heard that many people try priceline and get a nice hotel for 99 bucks.
I think you can do it, just have to look around. The hotels/resorts are very cool. You could spend days just going through them. How old are your kids?
MGM has the lion habitat. NYNY looks like NY city :) has the roller coaster etc.
Luxor is the pyramid. Pretty neat too.
I love vegas.

The Luxor would be one of my choices if I had to consider the kids. Look into MGM too, the kids would love the pool.

We stayed at The Flamingo last June and really enjoyed it. For location you really couldn't ask for a better spot. It's smack in the middle of the strip right across from The Belligio (where there's a free water show that shouldn't be missed). We easily walked from our hotel down to The Excalibur and up to The Venetian on several different occasions. The pool has been rated among the top 10 in Vegas by several sources and I'd have to agree with this. There's a great lazy river/slide type thing. You just need to get down early when the pool opens to get chairs. We stayed from a Saturday thru Thursday. Saturday night we paid about $120 but the other nights it was $55-65. I booked directly on their website. Our room was nice and very large. We did have a long walk to the elevators but that really wasn't a problem. If we ever go back to Vegas I'd stay there again.

I have gotten The Venetian for $99 per night from Priceline. It's very over-the-top & fun to see. The gondola ride is fun & the rooms are nice and big.

Flamingo-They have a great swimming pool, the wildlife habitat with penguins, flamingos, ducks and waterfalls are really cool. Usually the Flamingo is pretty cheap (unless Jimmy Buffett is in town)

Bally's is another good choice because it is in the mid strip area...there are a TON of hotels around to just explore. They have an ok pool..nothing as elaborate as some but ok.

NYNY-They have a great roller coaster and they also have a setup much like Coney Island in NYC. It really makes you feel like you are in NY. They have manhole covers that actually puff out little puffs of smoke just like you see in NYC.

We like the Monte Carlo not for the "theme" as much as for the wave pool with the kids. It's not so huge you can't manage to get through it and they have Lance Burton shows there if you wanted to splurge a little.

MGM is cool with the lion habitat and they have a pretty nice swimming pool.

Treasure Island is pretty neat as well but we were a little disappointed with them changing the show outside to a more racey theme called The Sirens of TI instead of just the pirate show.

I would avoid at all costs staying at Circus Circus. It has gone downhill quickly and while the rates are enticing it is not what it used to be in the past. I wouldn't stay there for sure!

I'm not so sure about the Stratosphere. It's been a few years since we stayed there mostly because it was a pain to get to the mid strip without a form of transportation. Now with the monorail it's better. As I recall the rooms were clean and decent. I know you can get rooms there for less than $100 a night.

Have fun..we absolutely LOVE Vegas!!!

I just sent you a PM................

We have stayed at Flamingo- you can't beat the location, and their breakfast buffet, is really good.

The Stratosphere wasn't terrible. Just a holiday inn type room, but you def. wouldn't pay much. I think we got it for about $49, on a thurs night.

South strip, Luxor, or NYNY are both very nice. I've never stayed at MGM, but it looks nice. I have heard to stay away from the Emerald tower at MGM. Unless they have redone it.

Last trip, we stayed at the Imperial Palace, just to have a cheap place, on the strip, and centrally located. It really wasn't too bad, and again well under $100

We have always booked with www.tripreservations.com for Vegas. They seem to have pretty good deals, and good customer service. They even honered a rebate that I sent in, not realizing it wasn't for the dates of my stay.

Have fun. We love Vegas, but with our current Disney obsession, are not going to make it there this year.

Thanks so much for all the advise! I was considering the Stratosphere (wow... only about $40/night!), but I was concerned about the many bad and iffy reviews I read. So I think we are going with the Luxor ($89). We will only be in Vegas from about 6pm on Monday until right after breakfast on Tuesday, so not much time to see anything... but maybe DH can see a few sights and lose a few $$ while I stay back and sleep with the kids!). Thanks again for all the help! .............P

We stayed off the strip at the Orlean's Hotel. It had great rooms and a huge poll. We had a great view from our room of the hotels on the strip. The room at the time was about $36/night, probably a bit more then that now--ok I just checked the rooms were in the $65-75 range without any discounts like AAA. If you are only staying one night, that is the way I would go. They have a couple onsite resturants and the buffets were like $1.99 for breakfast.

If you can get the Flamingo under a $100, I would highly recommend. I have stayed at several hotels in Las Vegas, including Treasure Island, Paris, Aladdin, Flamingo and Mandalay Bay. Flamingo can be a great bargain. The location is perfect and the pool is great.

I've never stayed at Luxor, but the location is not as central as Flamingo. If this is your first visit to Vegas and you are staying only one night, go with the Flamingo.

Just my two cents, of course.
