Hello all. I am visiting WDW again this fall but this time I am staying for the first time ever on property. I really want to stay in a LM room in AoA, but am open to Pop as well.
For people with experience in the value resorts at WDW, can you give me some tips about noise. Right now this is the only thing stopping me. My 2 year old son has just been diagnosed with autism and he can not handle loud noises. He is a very light sleeper and has meltdowns if he hears excessive noise; for example, he gets upset when cars outside honk too much. He cries if other kids cry or scream, etc.
I also have anxiety and I can't sleep if I hear excessive noise.
I hate to sound difficult! But I am wondering honest opinions of people who have stayed in value resorts before. Are the walls paper thin? I am thinking of bringing ear plugs but I don't know about them for the baby, I have heard of head phones but will it be uncomfortable to sleep with?
Thank you all so much in advance.
If it helps my travel dates right now are 9/29-10/6. Is this a very busy time?

The noise isn't actually as bad at the Value Resorts as other people make it out to be. If your son needs to be away from parking lot noises (honking horns, etc.), you can always asked to be placed away from the parking lots. I would also recommend asking to be placed further away from the pools, to reduce noise. I have stayed at POP many times over a number of years, and overall, I have found it to be a quite quiet resort.

We once stayed at POP 70s building facing the lake and it was pretty quiet. As long as you are away from parking lots and pools, the only thing that could be noisy would be your neighbors.

Our family has stayed at the values many times, and have actually stayed at POP 3 times :) We have never had an issue w/ noise. We do request to be put at the back of the resort, which tends to be MUCH quiter. Just make sure you let the CM know what issues you are worried about when making your ressie, and again at check in. The room we stayed in last time was the most peacful, it was over looking the lake. I think it was room 3636. And the time frame that you are traveling is not a busy time :) Good luck! I'm sure ya'll will have a MAGICAL time :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I've only stayed at Value hotels at WDW so can only comment on those - I have never heard excessive noises.

I will tell you my worst night of sleep was staying in a nice Marriott - my neighbors slammed their doors about 1x every hour all night long - even at 3am and 4am! I was so annoyed and complained in the morning - the manager was in shock as there were only 6 rooms on my floor!!

It's whoever your neighbor is. So if you get a bad one, ask to move ASAP. Also, ask to stay on the top floor (3rd) so you reduce the possibility of hearing your neighbors above you as well. Ask for rooms as far removed from the main walkways and paths as possible. These days even in conventional hotels I ask for a room on a high floor away from the elevator to reduce noise.

And yes, you can hear toilets flushing in the Value rooms - don't know why that seems to be a big deal on the Dis though? That's pretty much standard in hotel rooms everywhere - even very nice ones. But perhaps you can't hear it in mods and deluxes.

I agree with this. The general areas can be loud but our rooms for the past 3 years in the 60's section all facing the lake have been quite. I also bring a fan to drown out the noise as I'm a light sleeper as well. Works well for me. We love pop and are headed back for our 4th stay. I'm pretty sure next year we may try out AOA in a LM room.

We stayed at mostly moderates and some deluxes before we tried pop and we are completly happy there.

We have stayed value, and deluxe. Noise was not a big issue. although even at the CR. we had people slamming doors an running up an down the hall

we stayed at POP last year and didn't have any problem with the noise. We were in the 70's building.. Maybe you could request the top floor that way you won't have that many people passing by your room.

This year we stayed at ASMo and again we had no problem with noise. While we were there they were having a cheerleading competition and still with all the cheerleaders we still didn't have any issues.

I don't believe the time you are going is busy the kids will just be going back to school..

Have a great trip!! :goodvibes

I agree with the previous posts. For example, at POP, I would ask for a top floor with a lake view which would be quieter. Also, I have heard complaints of hearing toilets flushing at the values, but I've never had a problem if I close the bathroom door at night.
Have a great trip!

First, hugs to you. I have two year old twin boys who have some sensory problems (not noises) and I know how frustrating it can be. I woukd recommend perhaps posting this question on the disabilities board. Lots of posters have children with the same issues and I imagine you can get a lot of answers. We own dvc, stay 4-5 times a year on property, all levels, and it really depends a lot on your neighbors. I have had problems in deluxe resorts with interior corridors, during pop Warner at the values, and our worst was this past April at cbr.

I would definately talk to the cm checking in, probably wouldn't book a preferred room, ask for something at the end of the end (far corner maybe) on the top floor. My two year olds wouldn't sleep with anything in or on their ears and I can't imagine yours would either. What about a white noise machine for some background noise? Maybe try it out at home first to see how he does. Or a fan like a PP suggested. Good luck and have a great trip!

I agree. Ask for a room facing the lake, and away from parking lots. Although the parking lots are fine, I never found them to be noisy and we faced a parking lot at pop on one trip. I found facing the lake to be best thou. And its true that any noise you hear will be from your neighbours. The worst i found was the door slamming from neighbours rooms/even down the hall. That can be bad. But its not something you have control over.

First of all, thank you all soooo much. :goodvibes This was my last issue before booking our trip, and now I am confident it can be worked around.
@twinboysmom, thank you so much! Next time I will post on the DISabilities board, did not think of that. None the less all you guys gave me such awesome ideas. I will look into the fan, we are flying in so I am not sure how that will work, do they provide them at additional cost? Maybe one that can fit into my checked in luggage...we are not renting a car (using Magical Express and just plan to stay on property), so I don't know where I can buy one during the trip. And I will definitely mention it to the CMs upon check-in. Very excited for my first on site experience!!!

I've stayed at ASSp once and POP twice, all during less crowded times. DD has sensory integration issues and low muscle tone so easily fatigues. We've had to find a balance between noise and distance. We've had to request first floor as well, due to a fear of heights.

The only thing I would add is to stay away from the elevators. At ASSp we were in building 7 (backside of Touchdown), first room past the elevator area. All was fine except at night when people were returning after park closing. Then we heard the elevator dinging and (happy :drinking1 :dance3: :drinking1) people returning. It was enough to keep me awake until late a few nights.

At AoA, LM rooms will be the furthest out, so I think as long as your not facing the pool area you'd be fine. Last time at POP we were in the 50s building closest to Classic Hall on the back side (preferred). It's very vegetated there, which blocked noise. It also kept the temperature in the room really nice.

Have fun!

I just have a small table top one and pack it in my luggage. You may want to check walmart or target to see what they have. I paid under 20.00 for mine. I just wrap it between clothes so it dont' break in transit.

I have a bright pink one (approx. 4inch diameter) that sits on my desk at work that I bought at Walgreens for about 8 bucks. It's not that quiet, so it will probably do the trick for "white noise."

There are some real pros on the disabilities board that will know the answers to all of these questions. They even have suggestions for questions you haven't asked yet. :)
You should start a thread and see what advice you get!
