Need unique but not weird baby boy names.

Random naming story. My nickname is Cray. It's a super-long, boring story why. Anyway, I have Scottish heritage, and at some point in the weeks before DS was born, I got fixated on making his middle name be McCray or MacCray. As in, "son of Cray." And I was SUPER emotional about it. DS would have DH's last name, and I wanted him to have my name, too. DH was very patient, conflict-averse, but at some point he just got exasperated and said "your name isn't actually Cray, you know." :lmao:

My boy's name is Orin Alexander. It took 6 days after he was born to choose the right name for him. It means river in old English and, as an Aquarius and with the kidney condition he has, we were just extending the connection to water :)

Dash, Corbin, Sterling, Cedric, Cory, Tyson, Campbell, Drake, Judah, Niles, Percy.

Just a few names I thought of. I teach 7th grade and these are the names that I do not come across often. I think that if you couple a unique name with a very, very plain or old-fashioned name, the combinations are beautiful. Example: Sterling Michael or Corbin Scott or Drake Howard. Just a suggestion.

My three grandsons are Logan Cole, Levi Cooper, and Layton Cole.

(OT: but my four grand daughters are Aubriee Shai, Hannah Lee, Abigail Raye, and Leah Cassidy.)

Aubriee, Levi, and Layton are my elder son's kids and Logan, Hannah, Abbie, and Leah are my younger son's.

That's our last name. There is a boy in our soccer league named Sutton, and we're always whipping our heads around when we hear somebody call his name.

Had to laugh when I saw your names. I know a Cole and Logan and love them. Also know a little boy that was a *surprise* late in life, and the parents named him Layton and they have never lived it down. Everyone immediately turned it into *late one*. It died down so the little fellow (8 now) is not aware of what a sensation his naming caused ;) His best little friend (a girl - my niece) is named Larkin.

I agree with the pp who said that traditional, older names aren't popular right now. I know about 10 kids with the "ayden" names. I know several kids with strange spellings, place names, and unisex names. The only David I know under the age of 70 is my son, who is named after the only other David I knew under the age of 70-my brother. My brother was David Eugene, and my son is David Malcolm. My older son is John Franklin. I have a nephew Zachary. I like Gabriel and Noah, too. Oh, and Patrick. I like Patrick.

David isn't uncommon here. My DS has more friends named David than anything else (and none go by nicknames). I'm constantly asking "which David?" when he tells stories. There are 4 different Davids that he speaks about pretty frequently (all in his class of roughly 100 kids.)

My 4 month old would have been Hadley if he was a girl! Love that name! We also like the surname thing!

There is actually a website (google it) that you can see the popularity of names by region. There are tons of Chase, Bryce, Landon, Aiden, Jackson, Jaxon, Noah, Evan, etc in our area, but they might not be as popular elsewhere.

Surprised neither of my boy's names are here. My DS6 name is Brady Kennedy. Brady is common, but we really don't hear it that much at all (except for the two trips we took to Disney during New England Spring Break week :)). There are TONS and TONS of Braydens and Brodie's though in our area. The baby's name is much more uncommon, but again not weird. It is Jacoby Jackson. We call him JJ.
My six year old granddaughters name is Hadley Drew. My grandfathers name was Druley and she was named after him. Her little 3month old sisters name is Piper Haze. Hazel was my grandmothers name so Haze came from that. I love mixing "new" names with "old".

Picking names can be hard. My husband and I could only agree on ONE boy name. We decided that when we had a baby we'd name him Liam Howard. I wanted an Irish/Gaelic name and wanted a family name. My brother is William and we didn't want the exact same name so hence Liam. Howard is my paternal grandfathers name. Needless to say, we chose the name and my mom told us it was weird. Then a few months later she discovered Tori Spelling had a son with that name and it was too popular. W just picked what we liked, but I'm afraid he won't be the only Liam in his class and I feel bad about that. I think most importantly find something that is meaningful to you. I disliked my name growing up because it was unique but I'm so thankful for it now and even more thankful to be named after my grandmother and aunt.

Other names on our short list for a boy should we have a #2 are Seamus, Ryan, Eoin (Owen), Colin, Declan and Kieran

Love all these names!! our four boys' names are not super unique, but I wouldn't say they are really common either. They are:

Gage
Tucker
Ty
Ryder

And 3 of their middle names were mentioned in this thread: Zane, Sullivan, and Alexander. I really wanted Ty to be called Sullivan, but my hubby was afraid people would call him Sully. I think of the 4 names, Tucker's is probably my favorite and most unique. we only recently in the last year have seen his name being used more, and he's almost 10yo.

Jen

Connor
Brody
Braydon
Chase

We have 2 boys and they have 2 of these names, but these were all in the running and neith boy (9 or 2) have met another boy with his name~

There are multiple boys with each of these names in my 10 and 11 year olds school.

We were trying for unusual with our youngest, and named him Noah. Turns out there are 6 Noahs in his grade in our very small school district. :rotfl2:

Our oldest has a very unique name for our area. We named him Cass after his grandfather Casimir (which has been mentioned earlier) We just went with the nick name since that is what everyone called his grandpa anyway.

My younger brother's name is Malcolm - don't hear that one too often. I hate names that have to be spelled every time. Just spell it the way it sounds and be done with it - who cares how it's spelled - poor kids have to live with that :confused3

My husbands name is Thayer and that was what we were going to name our son but she's a girl and a surprise!!! Lol

We are very similar in the names we like :) My 2 boys are called Kieran Ross and Liam Jack. I also loved the name Declan but my dh didn't

Scottish - Chattan, Campbell (2 of my boys)
English - Carey (another one of mine)
I like Tyson.
Park(e), Lang(ley) and Slaton are family names.
I also like Camden, Bennet and Morgan. Good luck and congrats!!

I like Callin for a boys name. We were going to go with Caden until my friend named his new puppy that and I nixed that idea. My name is Sandi and when I was growing up, Annie was a big hit. You can probably imagine what followed.
