I know this is not the right place to post this and I am not really sure where to put this, but I just need to vent! I bought my niece Ana and Elsa is WDW last month . Elsa was located in Norway and Ana in DTD. I am so upset seeing the people who are selling Elsa online for $100+. In a way I am sad for the girls that can't have one because these people are selling them ridiculous high and I think I am upset that I didn't think of it! When I gave her the dolls her reaction was priceless so I really can't hold that last one, but still! Sorry to rant about this topic. On a side note. Does anyone know any information when they will be getting more stuff in? I am going down in May and hope for Frozen stuff all over so it's not like this anymore!

It is frustrating - took me forever to find an Elsa doll for my LO for Christmas. FYI for anyone who's currently looking, I saw several of them in my local JC Penney store this evening.

I know! Yeah and there is a review on the differences online I saw....not many! I wish the Disney store would get on producing more!!

So you are not upset about the actual doll, but that people have found a money market in them and are selling them for profit?

I get it is sad, but unfortunately this is not a new concept.

Ugg boots, beanie babies, hell even cabbage patch dolls from the 80's are all things that were bought at regular retail prices and then sold for way more then their purchase price.

yes, it is sad, but it is kind of the way it is.
I don't think Disney really realized how popular Frozen would be. I think part of it was because yes it is a great movie, and part of is because it has just been that crappy of a winter. Timing is everything. We have seen Frozen 3 times, not because it was that good, but because it was so cold there is nothing else to do.

I went to WDW thinking I could get an olaf for DS and yes I was said when I saw that everything was sold out, but he got a flounder and a crush. So he is happy.

I guess it is what it is. The Frozen frenzy will die down, just like any frenzy. Eventually you will be selling that doll at a consignment store for maybe 3dollars in order to make room for the next great thing.

Oh and when I asked a CM about more merchandise she said they are getting more in March when the DVD is released

That is very true about timing. I personally really wanted an Olaf when I was down there and was sad to not see him. And I know it's always been like this but I guess I was never into the market (I was a kid back with beanies and all that craze).

I am just amazed $100 for a doll who will be back on Disney shelfs in a few months. Oh well it is what it is. Thanks for letting me rant on here!!

I remember my neighbor bought a Tickle Me Elmo for her kid for like 300 bucks. Crazy, but yeah it happens.

Our a Toys R Us had tons of Frozen merchandise this morning. Gorgeous dolls in various sizes, playsets, plush...huge selection.

I know, it's crazy. We've got plenty of most of the stuff at our Disney Store, but the Elsa stuff has been sold out for ages; as soon as it comes in it's gone in hours. I don't think Disney realized how enormously popular she'd be. But then, Disney seems to have a small history of underestimating the demand of a certain character or product. I remember how crazy it got during the sale of the Princess Designer Dolls (or as my friend and I call it, Dollpocalypse) a couple of years ago, when a lot of people couldn't get through the crashed Disney Store site, and the ones who could were buying up a bunch and selling them for $300 on eBay :scared1:. All I'm after is the Elsa plush; it's nuts lol!

I feel bad for Disney. They never expected Frozen to be so popular. They made their merchandise amounts based on sales from Brave and Tangled, which were not nearly as popular and therefore they had leftover merchandise. Frozen was so popular, all of it sold out. Glad they're getting more. I'm hoping to get myself an Olaf plush one of these days.

I hope they get more stuff in before our trip the end of March and if they do get more stuff in I hope it doesn't sell out. My 7yr old son loves Elsa lol he keeps asking if we are meeting the "real" Elsa when we go to disney lol and if she will have her ice power lol. It's going to be an interesting meet and greet lol.

This

Disney probably had to make a decision on how much stuff to make around this time last year or even earlier. Its not like they can just call up China and have them rush them some more product. Those factories are now making probably the next movie's toys or maybe hats or anything.

Over production of in demand toys have bankrupted companies. Besides Cabbage Patch Kids there was also Teddy Ruxpin whose success killed Worlds of Wonder.

I just called PartyCity for an Elsa balloon for my nieces birthday. They are in the same boat with product...gone! She said everything is completely gone and she was told it will not be in for awhile. I wish everyone luck when we go back down this year for some Frozen stuff!

Not only that, but Chinese New Year essentially shuts down the Chinese manufacturing industry. Even so, a typical order takes about 7 months from placing the order with China to the product actually showing up. And those were small runs - ~30000 piedea

Toy speculation as a money making venture has been going on for awhile now, but really exploded in the past 15 years once eBay took off. Anytime there is either a real or perceived shortage of a particular toy, you will find people who dedicate their time to buying up any available stock they can get their hands on so they can try to flip it for obscene profits on the internet. I've seen it happen with a dozen video game console launches, and with the yearly "hot" toys for Christmas. This is probably the first time I've seen it happen with Disney movie merchandise, though.

It generally works out like a game of musical chairs. When the music stops, someone loses. Sell quick, because most of those toys will be worthless at some point. Why? Because if they are really hot, the manufacturer keeps producing them. They only maintain value if they remain "rare" and hard to procure.

I saw a show, I think it was a "Hoarders" episode, not too long ago in which the person started with the Ty Beanie Babies. Bought them up in hopes of selling for a huge profit. Didn't sell in time - now they are worthless. So he tried another toy and made the same mistake. Rinse, repeat, house full of garbage that he is afraid to sell because it might return in popularity some day.

My mom found both the dolls at JC Penny. Apparently, they now have small Disney stores in them.
