Need to vent... (Attn: Fellow TBers!)

I haven't posted here in awhile, but here it goes!

I'm sure all of you have seen/ heard about the now somewhat infamous DCL post on the Debate Board. I really could care less about what people think about Common Grounds, and if they don't want their kids there, then fine- more room for me!

But what makes me upset is that people have been totally degrading teens, not just in this post, but in other places as well! In fact, someone actually stated they would not fully find a teen's point legitimate because they are a teen- being a teen the sole reason. IMHO, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What if I had told someone that I wouldn't respect their opinion b/c they were over the age of 60? Or what if a man said that he wouldn't respect a woman's opinion just because she is a woman? No one would ever allow that, but it seems for teens that it is allowable. I'm just sick and tired of that just because I'm a teen it's as if I"m a second class citizen!

Ok, I think I'm done... Thanks everyone, I knew I could count on the CB. (Note to self: never wander over to the DB again!)

I've read the responses from the teens and frankly, since they are teens, I give them a mere grain of merit.

and now that's I've spent over an hour reading and replying...LOL!

I have to go up to school soon and my homework isn't done yet! AHHH! lol I'll do it before I go to bed!

I don't know anything about the post you're talking about on the DB and I don't know what DCL means, but I'd like to say a couple things here on your thread if that's okay?

No one's opinion should be discounted no matter what their age.

Another thing I like to say is: the teens (and younger) on the DIS that I have had the privalege to interact with, are some of the smartest, funniest, kindest, nicest people I've ever "met". I am often impressed and always enthusiastic to read what you guys and gals are talking about. The level of maturity the younger people around show, absolutely astounds me. Your opinions count, I listen and I learn. Thank you for being you!

Thanks for sharing your point of view. I say respect is a two way street and when you are a teen you are a young adult and you deserve respect. You may not always be right, but neither are "adults". Everyone can learn from each other, no matter the age. My biggest life lesson came from a bunch of kids ages 2-8 when I worked at an orphanage in Mexico. My second biggest life lesson came from being a youth group leader of teens.

Your input is important, especially when it's a topic on a teen issue.

Yes, you young ladies and all the teens are a very valuable asset to the DIS, and I certainly agree with the nice things that have been written here about you guys. .

But please. . don't let something like that upset you and drag into in a big argument like that anymore. . . you all have too much sense, class, and dignity to be over there fighting with someone as rude as the person on that thread is . . .

I have never been over to the debate board but I have found that there are a bunch of places in everyday where life where they don't care what we think because we're a teen.
I know on the CB people do not care if we're a teen.
When people found out I was gonna be down at DISCon this weekend with my mom they opened up all their ressies and invited me to come.
Bernie (OLDKicker) even got me a special meal for our dinner tomorrow night since I can't have gluten.
The people on the DIS (well most of them) are very opening to teens and their opinions and that's why I keep coming back.
I know some people still associate us with the 11, 12, 13 year olds but in 6 months I am 18 and I know some people will still associate me with teens despite me legally being an adult. Some people don't understand that the "kids" they are insulting are the ones that will be helping them or their families or someone close to them in a few years....we're the next generation and people should respect our opinions because we may not know what we're talking about all the time....but we do know about things that we should and we have every right to express our opinion like everyone else.

Sad to say the adults that don't care what teens say or think are doing a big injustice to their own teens. I believe it's usually adults that want to totally control their teens and not allow them to mature and grow on their own. It's their loss.
I have two teens and have always took the time to listen to them and their friends. We are always surrounded by teens, I can't imagine life without teens!!
I get so angry when someone at works cuts down teens and make statements about how bad teens have become but I notice that the parent that makes the nasty remarks are usually struggling with their own teens so they assume all are bad.

I have always been an avid supporter of our youth. There opinions should not be discounted because of their age. I enjoy being around teens and they can give you a whole different view on things.

My DS (15) was quite upset this weekend when people we were visiting kept making generalizations about kids changing into rebellious, not very nice people when they become teens. Even when I said that I hadn't done that when I was that age, they didn't believe it. I really hate it when people put young people down just because of their age. So many of them are smart, kind, caring people. It breaks my heart to have someone put them down.

I have the upmost respect for teens and what they have to say. You are our nation's future. How could I not respect you and your opinions?

I also support your opinions.
My DH was recently injured and has to be in a wheelchair for a few months. We found that when we go out, that it's teenagers who are the most courteous and helpful!!
And, it's people our age (mid-30's) who are the pushiest.

So, more applause for teenagers from this corner.
