After cancelling four trips this year (waiting for house to sell) we are anxiously hoping to take a trip in September...house still has not sold, hence I need to crunch our trip and squeeze some bucks out...

We're booked for GV at Poly..we've been there once and really enjoyed our stay...I have always wanted to stay at CR..but to be honest the loud rooms give me a headache in print..I was afraid what being there would do..but spending $400 more for GV at Poly v. a wing room at CR would probably outweigh the headache the rooms might represent.

My biggest concern is the talk about the "weariness" of the rooms there. My son and daughter have severe asthma and smoked in rooms will be a ticket to the ER. Are the wing rooms non-smoking? We have five in our family and with their asthma we need to stay at enclosed resorts so it's either BC/YC/Poly for us...and for the $$ CR wing seems to be the best option.

Would love some encouragment. This has been a tough year...just lots of aaaagh moments and events and we are soooo ready for a vacation. If I have to cancel this trip because our house hasn't sold, just bring on the straight jackets.

I'll need to call the AAA agent and have her switch our ressies in the next few days....hoping you guys will encourage me with good stories!

Have you thought about the swan and dolphin?
They are enclosed resort, and you get almost all the same options as staying in a regular disney owned hotel. Just not the mickey soaps, and charging with the room key in the parks.

It might save you some $$, as there rates tend to be less than the other hotels you mentioned. Just be aware, they are now charging for parking if you have a rental car, and they have the per day fee (for paper, fitness center, i think coffe, etc) . So make sure you add up the real total to get a good comparison of price.

The items you mentioned are reasons we have waited and haven't stayed at the CR. We were thinking this september, but are going to wait until the place is refurbished. I read somewhere one of the wings was closed because they are refurbing it. I have severe allergies, and my husband has asthma. I'm usually the person with more problems. I can't do the down items along with smoke, and the swan & dolphin have done a great job. One bad thing on our last trip, we got back late one night, and either a neighboring room, or one above or below someone was smoking in there non-smoking room because the smoke was all in our room, so we had to move. Not a problem but it was close to 11 pm when we got to our room. Its not the hotels fault but the person who chose to smoke in the non-smoking room.

We stayed in the CR in a north wing room last month and had an enjoyable stay - I thought the condition of the room was fine and it was great to walk to the MK.

However addressing the asthma concern - my 3 yr old also has trouble with asthma and we're not sure how he'd react around smokers (he hasn't really been exposed to smoking) so we had a guaranteed non-smoking room. But someone nearby to us WAS smoking - perhaps in their bathroom - because the smell of smoke was VERY strong in out bathroom - in the toliet area (the bathroom is separated into 2 rooms). I ended up closing the door to the bathroom whenever we smelled the smoke in there and we opened the windows. I called the front desk and they said they would move us if it was a problem (he didn't react to it thankfully) but otherwise they could not do anything about someone smoking in their room as they had no idea which room. She did tell me that all the surrounding rooms were non-smoking so whomever was smoking was doing it where they shouldn't  I didn't smell any smoke in the room from previous residents however.

I'm not sure there is much you can do about smokers who smoke where they shouldn't. At least I'd guess that any of the WDW resorts would be willing to relocate you to another room if that becomes a problem.

The rumor, from a very reliable source says that that the North Wing is undergoing a rehab to become DVC rooms.

We can't stay at Swan and Dolphin because there are five in our family and we would have to rent 2 rooms which is more expensive than one at CR. My main concern with the Wing rooms is that it's been awhile since the refurb and I'm afraid the chances of having smoke in there sometime since will be higher....I'm hoping it won't be as bad...I really hate playing room roulette when your travel time is precious...I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

Thanks!

We always stay at the Poly and love it. Last November when we went, we tried to add on an extra night and the Poly was full. We ended up going to a wing room at the CR for one night. We were pleasantly surprised. I guess I went in picturing the worst. Poly is still our first choice, however we would stay at the CR again in a heartbeat if we needed to save some $$. Our 2 kids also have asthma and they did great. I did not smell smoke whatsoever. The room we had was not old looking at all. It was clean and felt very "Deluxe" to us. You can't beat the location. It is wonderful to be able to walk to the MK. The CR also has terrific food choices. We had a first floor room and it was great to open the patio doors and walk out into the sand. I hope I helped, and I wish you luck in selling your house! :earsboy:

I haven't stayed there since I was 3 (1971 ;) ) but a friend of mine always stays at the CR and she has made me want to try it! She loves the tower rooms for the view and the CR for its convenience to the MK and the monorail.

The Concourse Steakhouse has great food and the California Grill is legendary, of course. The pool at the CR always looks like fun (we have walked past to/from the boat dock lots of times).

I think you should give it a try. I am pretty sure that you can get a guarantee of a non-smoking room if there are health issues. We have asthmatics in my family, too (DD 6 and myself) so it's always important for us to have a smoke-free room. I have never been disappointed.

There are multiple other reliable sources that it will not be a DVC resort. Too many modifications required to make it work.
