Hi guys! Haven't been here since our new baby arrived (5/6) often, because of lack of time (imagine that ...) :) and our computer has been acting up! UGH! Not good timing!

Having major DIS withdrawls!

I have just started working from home, so I need a computer that will let me add a few new progarms, nothing too hard to operate. Also, we use the computer mainly for internet (DIS...lol) and email to family and friends. So, we really need a basic computer without too many costly bells and whistles.

We have had ours for about 4 years and have not had much luck with it (Micron). Anyone have any suggestions of what brands you are having good luck with?

Thanks in advance!

DELL. We have three and are extremely happy with them.

Do not get a DELL or an HP/COMPAQ headaches beyond belief with them. Have one built or as Jolie said get and Alienware. Get something that is easily upgradable and you can choose the parts you want in it that way you know exatly what is going in your machine.

I love my Dell. :) I got it for Christmas and haven't had one problem with it.

Now, AOL is a whole nother story...

I do wireless networking and wireless comercial internet setups and I am an Aplus and so on computer tech and we have more problems with incompatability with DELL and we have alot of HP products that seem to end up with hardware and hard drive failures and we are an authorized reseller and repair shop for the HP compaq systems. We also have a company build custom systems for our clients if they so desire. I prefer to tell the shop exactly what I want in my machine and the configuration of it less hassles and headaches that way. Also easier to find device drivers if the need arises with using individual components like Creative labs sound cards and so on.

You can have your DELL built with anything you want also, they have custom built ours to our specifications. I only had two problems with them and everytime I got the parts the next day and excellent customer service.

I currently have 3 Dells, 2 desktops and one laptop, and just reitred a four year old Dell desktop. All have been wonderful, superb service. In fact, I just called a couple weeks ago with a noisy DVD drive on the laptop. I called about 8 PM. I just held the phone to the drive and let the tech listen (BTW, he was in India, but could have been down the street for how good the service was, LOL). A new drive was at my house, FEDEX, 4 PM the following day, 20 hours. It came with a prepaid return FEDEX, just had to put the old one in the box, call FEDEX to come to the house and I was done. A nice thing about Dell too is you can choose the options you want, configure the way you want, or just purchase a setup that most people are comfortable with within a given price range. They have pretty much become the standard and their quality, service and pricing makes them my current choice, unless someone were maybe a gamer or into building their own. A Dell dude. :)

Dan I had the same experience with two of my computers, one was the hard drive, the other one the motherboard and both were replaced without a problem. I had both parts in my home the following day. My husband always has the computers built to his specifications and never had a problem.

The comapny I work for got me a Dell Ispiron 8000 series laptop and it had all these wonderfull little add ons to it and they all felt like it was made like a Vtech toy I kept it for 2 weeks then sent it back. It had replaceable wrist rest for whatever reason. You could change the colours etc with it but they kept falling out and the last thing I wanted to be doing when on a service call or doing and istal and configuration was putting my laptop back together. We have also had to work on numerous Dell machines alot of companies buy them at discounted prices and have issues with them so most people I know know steer clear of them. So from my dealings with Dell I wouldn't spend my money on one. But it is like anything what one person loves there is another out there that hates it.

I LOVE my Dell! Would by another in a heartbeat.
