Need to change a flight booked through Expedia. ???

I spent sime time this morning on their site trying to get info but its very vague. I bought DD an American Airlines flight to Hawaii through Expedia. She just started a new job and they won't give her the time off until fall ( flight booked for May) I know I'll have to pay a fee.American's policy is $200 . Does anyone have any experience doing this? I know I have to call Expedia , I'm just waiting until she tells me the dates she can go.

Seems like not only do you pay a fee to expedia to change, but also pay if the airline has a change fee. You might be able to just call American.
I guess that's why I tend to book Southwest. No change fees, but you must pay the difference if there is a higher priced flight you changed to.

I think that's a link specific to Singapore but thanks. I do fly SW whenever possible but it wasn't an option for this trip.

It's not a Singapore link. It was giving differences between low cost and legacy carriers. They treat the change rules based on that. So, for Air Asia, their example, is a low cost carrier, and you can generally go right to that carrier to do the change. For legacy, like their example of Singapore, you have to go through Expedia. I didn't check to see if American is low cost or legacy, but that will determine who you call to do the change.

Yeah, Hawaii is an awesome destination. I heard since SW bought AirTran, they were thinking of also competing for Hawaii. So far, it seems to be more of a dream.

Might be the same info, though. I've mystifyingly ended up on .sg pages when booking on hotels.com in the last 6 months...I'm on hotels.com and then suddenly I'm not. Owned by Expedia. Huh, what a coincidence.

Agreed. Unless the Expedia price is a fraction of the direct booking. With 3rd party booking, once you have a problem, you then have to fight with 2 companies pointing the finger at each other rather than just one. Travel experts (Elliott on USAToday) help people with these problems all the time.

OP said there was no fee from Expedia. I like to use them when the trips involve multiple airlines. They are also good about notifying us of changes in flight times. Our last family trip I had my DS booked through Expedia and they notified us about changes to the flights promptly. The rest of us on the same flight booked through the airline were not notified until at least a month later.

From what I've seen, every flight available on AA is also available on Expedia. In this case, at least, I'm not faring any worse than if I had booked directly with AA.
