I know that if the airline changes their flight time prior to your trip that they have to refund your nonrefundable ticket. What I don't know is how many minutes to they need to change their flight time in order for me to request a refund? Does it vary from airline to airline? I'm curious about US air and American? Thank you for your help!

I may be wrong, but I think that they can get away with changing the flight times. I'm not sure, but I think they can change it within a certain number of hours. You would have to check the airlines "carriage of contract" or something like that.

This happened last year with us on Delta. They changed the flight times about 7 times before the day we were scheduled to fly. Since they changed the times by several hours at one point, I called them and they were kind enough to not only reschedule us on another direct flight at the time we wanted, but out of another airport closer to home...all for no fee!! I thought that was incredible.

I would suggest calling each airline directly...maybe you will get a nice person on the other end like I did.

Best of luck to you.

Generally speaking, it's not the flight time, but the arrival time. If you will arrive more than two or four hours from when you originally booked, depending on teh carrier, they need to refund your airfare if you request.

The best bet is to call the carrier and inquire.

Last year US Air changed the departure time by 15 minutes. I found a significantly cheaper flight on another airline and I cancelled and they did refund the money. I don't think this is something they advertise. I don't really want to call as half the people on the phone really don't know and the fact that you spend so long on hold trying to get someone one the phone.

It's based upon the individual carrier. There's no need to call if you don't want to, though, because in most cases the reservations people aren't going to know the answer either. The best option is to either contact customer service (NOT the reservations/ticketing people) or to go online yourself and review their "contract of carriage." That document should answer your question based upon the specific airline's policies.

Thank you, I'm sure it will be in the contract of carriage, I'll go thru it. Thank you
