Can anybody guide me on what brands to look for? or to stay away from? I am looking for a 27" or 32" TV. and I need it as cheap as reasonably possible so most of the HDTV's are out as they are soooo much more than the regualr ones.

I have never actually bought a NEW tv so I am at a lost as to where to start. Thanks for any advice you can pass on!

We bought a Panasonic 30" widescreen HD Ready for about $1000 at Circuit City. You have to have a HD Cable or sattilite box to see the HD. We love the set and HD is amazing especially for sporting events. Even the regular, analog channels look really nice and since it is a flat screen you can see it from all angles.

True HD sets that do not need a cable box are significantly more expensive. Happy hunting!

we have had good luck purchasing open box items at best buy, a couple of years ago we got a 32 inch sharp tv for less than $300, just because there was no box. and right now at bestbuy.com there is a coupon for an extra 10% off open box tvs. if at all possible i would get hdtv, since they will be phasing out analog signals soon and you will need to get a converter once they do. so you might want to factor that extra cost into your purchase now.

Hi:)
Circuit city has lots of online reviews. My favorite one is sony, even though everything else I own that is sony has fallen apart the tvs have been ok, also samsung gets good reviews
There is an advent hdtv thats a 27 ich for around 400, im not sure if that got good reviews but I liked the blue light on it, Im a girl so those things appeal to me who cares if it works when you can have a pretty light:)

I'd really think twice about buying a standard 4:3 television these days. I ask myself, "Do I really want to buy another television in a few years?" I've got two crappy televisions down in our basement (there's no way to throw them away, right?) that I'd press back into service before I'd buy a new non-HDTV television. If you really cannot afford a decent HDTV yet, then I'd check out garage sales and such just so you have something for a couple of years, until you can afford an HDTV.
