Need summer clothes help

This might sound silly, but will mid thigh jean shorts feel too hot in the Florida summer heat and humidity? I only have so many pairs of shorts. Some are not jeans, but are closer to my knees and that feels like it would be too hot. I bought one pair of workout shorts but I can't wear them everyday. I'm probably way over thinking this but I'm trying to be ready.

I would not wear denim here in the summer.

As for the knee length shorts I'd say it depends on the material. With a nice light, loose material sometimes a bit more is better than less. The direct sun on skin down here can be brutal.

I tend to avoid tank tops because I find it cooler to not have the direct sun to skin contact on my shoulders.

YMMV

I don't recommend denim. Particularly if you intend to ride anything where you may get wet. It takes forever to dry and causes some painful chafing.

I prefer skorts to shorts. The split-skirt style (as opposed to attached shorts under a skirt) allow more air circulation and are cooler.

Ok, thank you. I won't bother bringing denim shorts then. It seems like many of my shorts are made from heavier material though. I guess I better do a little more shopping with that in mind.

I found the best shorts for Florida weather:

http://www.columbia.com/Women’s-Sandy-River™-Short/AL4573,default,pd.html

These can be found at retailers like REI. They''re an above-the-knee length. They're made of a moisture-wicking, cool material and are so comfortable! They're quick-drying, too, and would be great for rides where you might get wet (like Splash). They are even easy to hand-wash in the sink at night, if needed, and will be dry by morning.

One thing to think about is that you'll probably get very sweaty during the summer, and will go through more clothes than you might think. At home here in Washington, I might wear a pair of shorts or t-shirt a couple of days before washing. In Florida during the summer, I feel the need to change clothes in the afternoon sometimes - I got that sweaty! With these shorts, you can hand-wash them at night so you'll need fewer pairs. I brought three pairs for a seven-day trip(and had even brought other types of shorts to wear) but ended up sticking with the three pairs of these hiking shorts all week. You'll love them!

Sounds perfect! I'm going to try a pair or two. I like the idea of a quick wash in the sink. Thanks!

Edited to add- I just ordered that pair and a Sandy River Cargo shorts from Amazon.

Good for you - I'm sure you'll love them! Have fun on your trip.

I second this in a big way. I was in WDW earlier this month with 3 pairs of these. They're awesome. Like ZoZo said, they hand-wash very well and dry very quickly.

We had some very chilly weather and some very hot weather; I made the mistake of wearing knee-length denim shorts on a hot Epcot day and I was dying. I won't bring any denim when I go later in the summer, it's all Columbia and linen for me then! :)

I'll be the odd one out. All my shorts are bermuda-length denim. I've worn them during the hot months in Fl and have never had a problem. They do a get a bit uncomfortable if you get soaking wet, but they dry fairly quickly and they've never caused chafing for me personally. Other's mileage may vary.

Why do I like longer denim shorts?

1. They don't ride up EVER. I've never had chafing problems, even when wet
2. I don't have to worry about the "see-through" issue you might have with other materials when these get wet.
3. You can't tell they're wet in pictures and they don't wrinkle.
4. They go with everything. I don't have to worry about matching shorts to tops. Everything goes with jeans.

Those are all good points, but I know I get hot when I wear longer shorts to DLR and there you don't even have the humidity factor. I bring the long shorts but then end wearing the shorter ones over and over again. I do like the way denim shorts look though.
