I have two daughters, one is 8 and one is 6. The 8 year old has been collecting snowglobes for about 3 years now, gets one with each trip, usually at Christmas, birthday ect. My younger dd wants to collect something special as well (doesn't really want snowglobes) Can any of you help me think of something that would be a good collection. I would like it to be something special and nice, something she can have for a long time and add to. Something not too hard to find.

Somethings I have thought of that might work: frames (you could get too many adn what do you do with them when you grow up), jewelry boxes (could be neat but not sure, how hard are they to find?),

Help I need some suggestions. My older dd will get a new snow globe at WDW and I would like to be able to bring something to start soemthing special for my younger dd..... :confused3

One of my daughter's collects Disney pins. My other daughter has a collection of the original Polly Pockets (the tiny ones). My youngest son collects Pez dispensers.

My DD collects snowglobes. She started a year ago and already has quite a few. Her grandfather travels a lot for work and picks one up for her each time he goes somewhere different. She had wanted to collect something and I kind of suggested the snowglobes just because I knew how easy they would be to find in different places. She loves them. I can't think of many other things that are so readily available everywhere you go. Except maybe shot glasses or ashtrays but of course you don't want your child collecting those I don't think.

The Disney Pins is a good idea except its not something that uncle joe can bring back from his trip to Texas you know. Some of DD's favorite snowglobes are the ones her grandfather has gotten.

I collected Unicorn figures when I was a kid. But my interest didn't last long. Showing them (all ten of them) to DD was what sparked her interest in a collection. She already has about 20 snowglobes.

Maybe she could collect nice glasses or something like that. Most places that have souvenier shot glasses might have regular glasses as well.

What about pens and/or stationery? You can find that almost anywhere and she could use it to keep journals, write notes, at school, etc. or she could just keep them as a collection. I know my DD got a set of Winnie the Pooh crayons at WDW and a journal with Pooh on the cover. That was when she was 2 and she still has the journal with her drawings (aka scribbles) in it. We even have a photo of her observing the fish at the Living Seas and "recording" them in her journal.
I had a small collection of dragons when I was a kid, but that was kind of a "thing" with me. But I always liked having neat paper and pens around too.

I started collecting charms for my DD's charm bracelet. Each time we go to WDW we purchase a new one.

Dolls? Small glass/crystal figurines? banks? I had a friend that collected salt and pepper shakers (not very little girl, though) bells?

I have given my goddaughter Christmas ornaments every year. When she grows up, she will have a fantastic tree! I buy at Christmas and then deliver throughout the year.

Let me think what my nieces (I have 8) collect...One of my nieces has a charm bracelet and gets a new charm every holiday and birthday. I have another niece that collects dolls--the porcelain kind. Another one of my nieces collects Precious Moments. I have another niece that has a collection of snow globes (of course, you don't want that).

I collect clocks and Armani figurines. I have a friend that collects banks. My mother has a collection of horses and clowns (Emmet Kelly Jr.). My nephew collects coins. My grandmother collected glass (the nice kind that is worth a fortune now) and Hummels.

I think the important is to build on her natural interests and find something that goes with it.

I second the Christmas ornament collection. She can aways leave a special one or two out but it is nice to see them every year on the tree and rememebr when stories.

My DH and I started this while we were dating and still pick up an ornament every trip.

I have a bunch of Disney snowglobes, but have not been very happy with how they have held up over the years

My niece started a charm necklace last year at DL. She is looking forward to finding a Stitch charm this year at WDW.

This is such a fun thread!

I third (or fourth??) the Christmas Ornament suggestion. One of the Christmas presents I get for my three goddaughters are Hallmark ornaments for the last four years...I've gotten them the fairy series...but she could collect them from wherever you vacation (hmm...WDW??) OR find cute ones at Hallmark too.

I know that once I left my family home and moved out on my own, I had NO ornaments for my very first Christmas tree on my own. It was kind of sad to me, actually. I bought new ornaments but they didn't have any meaning...

So, long story short, my goddaughters won't have that problem!

Other ideas include, charm bracelets, piggy banks (encourage saving!) and postcards. I think she could do the postcard collection in addition to another collection also. My DS has a FANTASTIC postcard collection. The beautiful thing is that everyone we know knows that he collects them. Because they are so inexpensive, he gets a TON of them! (I mean, even my BFF's PARENTS send him ones when they travel!) This, coupled with our love of getting "fun mail" makes a great collection.

My DS and I have also started writing away for autographs of favorite "famous people"...again, something fun to get in the mail PLUS a great way to make him write!

Take care!

I assume you want something Disney related...if so pick her favorite character AND GO WITH THAT. i COLLECT mICKEY, MY dd tINKERBELLE.

I like the Christmas ornaments idea. You can purchase stands to display a few favourites throughout the year, and the rest can be packed away as her collection grows.

Then, when she's all grown up and ready to leave the nest, she'll have the beginnings of her first Christmas tree!

I used to give all of the young people in my life (family and friends) a Christmas ornament (usually not Disney--they weren't Disneyphiles) every year as part of their Christmas gift. The parents would put them on the tree, then pack them away. Then, the last Christmas they were home, I would buy them a tree topper. Not necessarily exactly what they would select, but something nice that could be used until they were in a position to replace it.

My BFF's daughter still has all of the ornaments and the tree topper. She uses them on her upstairs "family" tree. The downstairs one is done by a decorator--her DH's choice, not hers! *LOL*

How about ceramic disney figures? I have gotten one each time we went to disney for my dd. She has a tinkerbell one and a cinderella one. The are about 6 inches high. Very cute. I'm also passing on my disney snowglobe collection to her.

I have been collecting barbies since I was about 12. I have one of each holiday barbie, angel barbies, coke barbies, I have the entire set of gone w/the wind and wizard of oz baribes, and many more. right now I have them stored just b/c I don't have room for them in this house but I can't wait to display them. My dd7 has also started her own little collection but she will essentially inherit mine so we don't get too many she also has a small collection of angel figurines. I would just make sure it is something she likes and talk w/ her about what she might like to collect. In addition to my collection my great grandmother passed on to me a curios cabinet that I was thrilled to get but along w/ it came all 5 shelves full of thimbles I guess its no worse than the matching curio that my brother inherited that was 5 shelves full of brass figures. While these aren't the most attractive things to collect and they are not displayed in our homes they are interesting pieces b/c they we pieces that both my g.g.mother and my stepg.g.father collected from their many travels around the world.
