Need Suggestions for New Coffee Maker

We have the cuisinart with thermal carafe. We love it. It literally keep the coffee hot all day. We've actually had 2 family members buy one after using ours!
This is really the best answer for us.

A couple of things to note:

  • Cuisinart actually has two completely different lines of coffee makers. They're both okay, but one is substantially better than the other. You can tell the difference by the shape of the bin you put the coffee grounds into, i.e., the shape of the filter it uses. The better line of coffee makers is pictured above. As you may be able to tell, it takes a CONE-shaped coffee filter. That makes a big difference.
  • The thermal carafe is essential. It keeps coffee hot - for hours and hours - and more importantly it does so without applying more heat, which would tend to "toast" the coffee.

DH doesn't need the coffee scalding hot, but more than lukewarm. I'm thinking the Cuisinart and will look into the Bunn. Seems like pros and cons to both. I'm hoping for some good Black Friday sales!
I strongly recommend against the Bunn. It is much more persnickety, and I have the burn scars to prove it. The big advantage of the Bunn is its ability to make coffee quickly, because it keeps a full pot of hot water at all times - like having a second hot water heater in your home, continually keeping water at the right temperature to brew. If you can wait the six or seven minutes (really only an extra three minutes) for your coffee, then you don't need a Bunn, you'll be safer in my experience, and you'll use less electricity too. :)

Put me in the Kuerig fan club...once you get one you'll never want anything else. We use both the k-cups and the insert--always fresh, always hot and never any waste.

This is ours, too! Although we disabled the ear-piercing beeper that goes off when the coffee's done. I love this -- and the same thing happened -- guests went and got their own after using ours.

Also, OP, if your hubby likes the coffee very hot, you can pre-heat the thermal carafe -- put hot water in it for several minutes, then dump it out and brew the coffee. That'll keep it hotter longer.

...okay, now I need to go refill my coffee mug! :goodvibes

Funny, we are looking for a new one too. Something with a timer and that will brew about 40oz of coffee (two 20 oz to-go cups worth). I've looked into Kuerig and I don't like the whole "one cup at a time" thing, or being limited to the brands available in K-cups. Although I just found out that Green Mountain does have some fair trade varieties, so that's a plus.

You were me. I fought the whole one cup at a time thing for about 2 years. WE now have one and I love it. It is so much faster than brewing a whole pot. AFter the initial worm up which takes about 1.5 minutes, your coffee will brew in literally about 20 second. It is crazy fast. I love mine. Also if you go onto their website they have more coffee brands and flavors that any other that I have ever seen before.

PS, I am drinking Green Mountain Nantucket Blend as I type this.

Another Keurig convert:) A fresh hot cup every time.

OP I just got my newegg newsletter today and while looking through I checked out their kitchen electronics (coffee makers). You might want to look there, the prices are very good.

Also, we had a high electric bill for a while from our coffee maker. I bought a $5 timer. I think that is the only downside I have with my unit. It was easily remedied. It turns on at 5 a.m. and off at 10 a.m., we are not all day coffee drinkers.

Another thing too with the Kuerig is you can program the start time so the water will be hot and of course it has a shut off timer as well. Mine has a setting too for water temp. Mine;s all the way up though since I like hot coffee. I think it's 192 degrees.

Those are some features in my model, I know there are different ones out there.

I love that I can have a cup of regular coffee, then the next cup switch to a vanilla and then move on to a hot chocolate or iced tea (or regular tea) with no coffee taste in the maker or being 'stuck' with a whole pot of one kind.

We went through this before just finally getting both. I disagree with everyone that says Keurig is "hot and fresh." Those beans were ground and packaged probably months before you made that cup of coffee. However, it really *is* convenient, and there are a lot of good flavors out there! My kids also love to use it for tea and hot chocolate.

I prefer my Cuisinart though, because I can just put fresh beans in the top and out comes a nice hot and fresh pot of coffee. :goodvibes It does stay hot for a few hours. I think when it's first made it's actually way too hot to drink. The only downside to the Cuisinart is that because it's a thermal pot, it's actually a few cups smaller than a standard coffee maker.

I love both of them for different reasons, so it really just depends on what you are looking for it to do.

I think this is what my mom and dad have. My dad is OBSESSED with this thing. Every time we go over there he has to tell us about how it keeps the coffee hot for HOURS! Like he makes it in the morning and when he comes home for lunch it's still piping hot, and after work it's still warm! :rotfl:

My DH loves his Bunn, he won't buy anything else.

MIL loves her Keurig.

To each his own I suppse :)

I have thought about the idea of having both. Being able to choose from better coffee and more convenience is very attractive to me. But we're running out of counter space! :)
