Need suggestions for DD 11--waxing or bleaching?

The laser removal is rather expensive in my area just based on some initial checking. With Christmas coming I need a more budget friendly option, but I would love to go that way!

Has anyone tried one of the coil type remover's such as Bellabe? I just found that online, seems like it might be painful too though.

Mom, have YOU ever had your lip waxed? I have, and would never do that to an 11 year old. Honestly, I think a bikini wax hurts less than waxing your lip! The only reason I ever did it is because my friend owns a beauty salon - I sat back to have her wax my eyebrows, and she waxed my upper lip!:scared1: And I was in my 30's then.

Please, just talk to your doctor about the Vaniqua cream.

I would wax. I am dark haired with a dark complexion if I bleached it would be very obvious. I wax my lip and it hurts for a few minutes but I would not say it's extremely painful. Good luck !!

From a guy who went out with a girl who bleached... blond hair is still hair...

:rotfl: I agree! A blonde mustache is a notch lower than a dark one, but it's still a mustache!

I say wax.

Hmm - I get my lip (blonde) and eyebrowns waxed every 6 weeks. Sure, it stings, but it's not crazy pain (and I am the biggest wimp when it comes to pain). My girls have no lip hair (yet), but I told dd6 that she's getting her eyebrowns waxed for her 6th grade graduation present (although we do have threading places - maybe I'll try that).

There is a beauty school near me that does laser hair removal and it is really affordable compared to the salons. It is totally supervised by and instructor and its 30$ per session, to permanantly remove a mustache it takes anywhere from 4-8 sessions depending on how dark her hair is. You should look around and see if you have any beauty schools near you! In my opinion, it is worth it to pay to have the laser hair removal and then save yourself the hassle and money of having to wax every few weeks for the rest of your life.

I am not sure how much laser hair removal costs normally, but it still might be worth it for her self esteem. She is at an age where self esteem can be destroyed by mean kids.

Yes it hurts.:lmao:

My oldest started getting waxed about 10ish at a salon. I would just wax at home.

Now our hair is THICK and the waxing doesn't work anymore. We just shave now.

We need to go get lasered.

Shaving with a man's electric face razor is another option, OP. It is painless and chemical free.

She has dark hair and I am a bit concerned that bleaching might make it stand out more. So I think we will try wax or cream....just not sure which one yet.

Thank you all for the recommendations and advice it really does help a great deal.

I would not wax. My neighbor gets the area above her upper lip waxed and it looks really bad when she has it done. At first I thought she had some kind of rash, but it's too uniform. It gets red, inflamed and lasts several days.

Personally, I would have her try this: http://www.target.com/Artemis-Woman...index&frombrowse=0&rh=k:personal razor&page=1.

My DD is also 11. She doesn't have facial hair, but has a lot of hair on her arms. She told me that she wanted to do something about it. I got her one of those personal razors/groomers and it has worked really well. No irritation, no cuts, nothing negative. She has really sensitive skin and any wax or cream would probably cause a negative reaction.

I personally used the Sally Hansen facial bleach and it burnt my skin because I left it on too long.
When I went in for a wax over a month later, I was told I had a chemical burn. I have never bleached since. Now, 2 years later, I still have a dark area above my lip from the bleach burn.
I have done laser removal but it's VERY expensive and electrolysis but that didn't really work for long.
Good luck....

So did you do electrolysis or laser removal? How many laser treatments did you do?

That is a good idea. I just tried calling several and they are closed but I will try again on Monday and see what the cost is.

That looks like another possible option.

If anyone has anything else to add, please do. I am going to seriously weigh what everyone has suggested and experienced and go from there. Thanks again, everyone. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Tanya, I figured that I'd have DD start out with the personal groomer. If that hadn't worked for her, the dermatologist was going to be our next option. Maybe one day DD will get tired of using this gadget and want something more permanent. For now, this is a good option for her. :thumbsup2

The laser treatments were $200 each time and I went twice.(plus the consultation fee) After my pregnancy the hair came back.
The electrolysis was $20 for a 15 min. session and it worked but requires more time. She told me that whenever we have a major change in our bodies hormones it can make hair growth start or stop... makes sense but I don't like it.

Strangely, on the Dr. Oz show yesterday, he said shaving was the best option for women with facial hair. Seems like a pain to me. Who wants 5 o' clock shadow?

Threading or waxing - just not around her period (if she has one) because it REALLY hurts then.

I have and no I would never do that to a child if it was done at a salon, BUT the home kit I recommended is really not very painful at all. I did my eyebrows once, and only once, they bled for a few days after. The salon I went to sucked tho, I shouldn't have had it done there ever.

Really? Interesting......I love Dr Oz......

If the hair is dark, you could consider laser hair removal for her - its permanent, and hurts less than waxing. I just tried this recently, have had 2 sessions and almost all the hair is gone. They told me it would take 2-4 sessions, one month apart, $50 each. Best investment ever.

If you are considering laser in the future, then you do not want to be waxing/plucking now. Shaving would be the best option.
