Need suggestions for DD 11--waxing or bleaching?

My 2 cents is: If the hair is very thin and only shows because she is a brunette then Jolen cream bleach is the way to go. If the hair is thick or coarse and heavy then waxing is the way to go. But, if you do wax practice on yourself a while before doing it to your DD because if it is too hot you can really burn the skin. It is too hot if it is a thin watery liquid, it is perfect if it is honey like. The stuff cools in a few minutes so patience and practice is the way to go. Working on hand is the way to start then move up to your face, then your DD's hand to check for an allergy, then her face. I like Sally Hansen because the oil they provide for afterwards removes the wax so if you make a mistake, like getting it in your eyebrow when trying to shape them ;) you can get it out with no damage. I would never ever shave anything on my face. There is a girl who works at Walmart who shaves and the poor thing gets a 5:00 shadow under her chin.... girls shouldn't have stubble.

Bleach it. It will be nearly unnoticeable when it's bleached. Waxing would be beyond painful. It's a zillion times worse than eyebrow waxing... check with a dermatologist, there is a cream, Vaniqua, by rx only. It's supposed to be great.

I agree waxing can be painful and sometimes comes with side effects. Bleaching makes it unnoticeable and not painful.

I don't get that everyone thinks waxing is such torture. I've had my legs, lip, and brows waxed many many many times over the past 20 years. DH has his back, upper arms and chest done several times/year. The pain is sharp for a minute and then gone:confused3

I recommend "Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit". I find it easier to work with than traditional wax, no fabric strips to use, and the pieces of wax can be used multiple times. Just be sure to get it to the right consistency before using. It needs to be like a thick honey like consistency. One kit usually lasts me about six months. You can find it on Sephora's website.

If you are considering laser in the future, then you do not want to be waxing/plucking now. Shaving would be the best option.

I have been getting electrolysis treatments every two weeks for the past year. Finally, I am at the point where the hair is gone.

I started waxing/plucking at a young age and since I did it for so long I grew super hairs from doing that. Shaving or triming with siscors are the only way that the hairs won't become stronger and more like whiskers.

Okay, 3 weeks later and we have an update. :)

We decided to go with a hair removal cream and did the skin test last night with no problems. So a couple of hours ago we tried it and it worked like a charm, quick and easy too. She had some slight burning but it didn't last very long and her skin looks normal and she is a happy camper!

Thank you all for your help. :thumbsup2

I'm glad she is happy. You are a good mom for taking her concerns seriously and trying to help.:)

Can you pm me what you ended up using? Thanks.

I'm so glad this option worked out for your daughter!

I see so many girls/women walking around with facial hair and I am so surprised that they aren't doing something about it. I am always embarrassed for them. I know a lady with long white whispy chin hairs, and I just want to reach out and pluck them!

I have to say like a PP did, that seeing women with BLEACHED upper lip hair is no better than if it were dark. Trust me-a moustache is still a moustache....you can't conceal it unless it is gone.

As someone who was just diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, please ask her dr. if this is a possibility at her next physical. I don't have facial hair but that can be a symptom of a pretty symptomless disease that actually many women have. I put off having kids to be more financially secure, and if I had known, I would have done things differently.

Of course, it's possible unrelated, but better to be safe than sorry- and I know, because I'm sorry.
