Need suggestions for DD 11--waxing or bleaching?

My 11 yr. old DD has slight facial hair above her lip and it has become a major issue for her. I don't think it is very easy to see, but she does and is very self-conscious about it.

So I need some advice on the best method to remove/hide this as she is requesting. I have no experience with waxing or bleaching and would like a safe method of course that won't hurt her skin or make the problem worse.

Any suggestions?

I would say wax. If she can see the hair, it probably won't matter to her if it's blond or not.

For the first time, do it right after school on a friday when she has no plans for the w.e. just in case her skin reacts badly. Have ibuprofen before hand and make sure she's not on her period because that makes you feel pain more acutely.

I would say wax also. Let us know how it goes. My 10 Y.O. has quite a unibrow going. She knows it needs waxed, but is a bit scared. This afternoon I am taking her with me, to have mine done.

Also, regardless of which hair removal method you use i would strong advise against yuor daughter touching the area with her hands for a while. The oil from her hands can get into her pores there and they can break out.

I see quite a few teens come in when i am getting my nails done and they are constantly touching the new 'smooth' area. then later (a day or two) they come back thinking that the wax made them breakout or that they are allergic.

I say remove the hair, but I don't want to recommend HOW to do it. Waxing would be good because it would last, but would be painfull. What about threading? I had it done on my eyebrows, but I don't kow if it can be done on the upper lip.
Personally, if it were for my daughter, I would try to cream first, but maybe go to a dermatologist to make sure it wont burn her because shes so young. Good luck!

Bleach it. It will be nearly unnoticeable when it's bleached. Waxing would be beyond painful. It's a zillion times worse than eyebrow waxing... check with a dermatologist, there is a cream, Vaniqua, by rx only. It's supposed to be great.

From a guy who went out with a girl who bleached... blond hair is still hair...

DD reacts to the wax or something when she gets that done, eyebrows and lip. She has very dark hair and has started bleaching. It works pretty well and for her looks a lot better then having a big rash on her upper lip. :lmao: We tried the nair type stuff for facial hair remover and it burned her skin-as well as burning a mole right off her face :scared1::scared1:. We won't be doing that again.

Yikes. That's why you should always do a patch test on your inner arm 24-48 hours before putting the product on your face. I have pretty sensitive skin myself, but the Surgi stuff I mention in my previous post does not break me out.

Whatever you do please do not bleach it. All she will have is a white mustache that yes, you can still see. Get her waxed or some nair type stuff. Me personally I would get my child electrolysis. A few sessions and then it is over for good and it barely hurts.

If it were my dd I would wax. I wouldn't want to put any chemicals on her face.

Absolutely wax. You don't know what the chemicals will do to you in the bleach.

If you can find a place that does threading near you, I highly recommend that over waxing. Wax can really irritate the skin and can cause bumps and redness. Threading isn't completely pain-free, but it's really gentle on the skin and really quick. No redness, no hot wax, it's great. :thumbsup2

Hair remover cream. Sally Hansen makes one that works well. I'm sure there are other brands out there too

I vote for wax. We are going to have to go there over the summer with DD12 I believe. I'm just waiting for her to ask me.

Yes it will be tender but most places put an aloe gel on after that somewhat takes care of it. Also, she won't want to but I recommend washing your face with a light exfoliater like Clean & Clear. That lessons the break outs because the area is clear of the ointment and extra face oils.

Good luck!

Careful - she could be allergic to aloe. I put some on a sunburn and broke out in hives. Test the gel on her first (somewhere other than her face).

She has dark hair and I am a bit concerned that bleaching might make it stand out more. So I think we will try wax or cream....just not sure which one yet.

Thank you all for the recommendations and advice it really does help a great deal.

Sally Hansen has a home waxing kit, I use that between threadings. Honestly, I highly recommend threading, it's fast, easy and relatively painless. Waxing hurts, even the home kit. I have dark hair and I have my brows/lip threaded, it's my favorite way to have hair removed. :)
