My sister was supposed to go to Destin Sunday for vacation. Due to hurricane damage, she is thinking about Hilton Head. Any ideas for a good place to stay there? There don't seem to be many beach front accomodations except the places like Marriott, Westin, etc... and they are about $300/night. She was hoping to stay in a condo. Thanks!!

We just got back from Hilton Head and had a blast. We stayed at the Hilton beachfront hotel for under $300 a night and it was well worth what we paid. The hotel has just been updated. The hallways have open breezeways to let in the ocean air. The hotel also has pools, a jacuzzi, a boardwalk bar, restaurants and is only steps from the beach. From the beach in this location, you could see dolphins swimming about 40 feet out. My dh and ds even rented a water bike one day and peddled out to where the dolphins were and had a blast. We saw a horseshoe crab, fiddler crabs and hermit crabs. We also saw conch shells and sand dollars. There were stupid people fishing from the beach which is illegal. A grandpa reeled in a shark for his grandkid to hold. Everyone on the beach went running to see the shark. I did get it on tape. The lifeguard came running down and told the grandpa to put the shark back in the water. Later that day, we saw a couple fishing. the man said he had reeled in 30 small sharks that day and while talking to him, caught a sting ray. Be sure to have your sister go and watch the fireworks at Shelter cove on Tuesday night. Tell her to bring a chair to sit on so she does not get bit by fire ants. Harbor Cove is also worth visiting. You pay $5 to get into the area for the day. While there, we toured the lighthouse, saw some kids fishing for blue crabs, visited the Salty Dog and visited the preserve. Be on alert at the preserve as it is a swampy preserve with trails and boardwalks taking you to the indian shell ring. While on the boardwalk we ran into a poisonous snake, salamanders, turtles and frogs. I guess some people have also seen alligators. A great restaurant is Captain Seafood. We ordered carry out from there twice and brought it back to our room. Very delicious shrimp and crabcakes.

I know there are many HH condo rental sites on the net. The Holiday Oceanfront is suppose to be nice for less money. AAA or another travel club may have some ideas also.

Back before we purchased a HH condo and ultimately moved to the area, we used to rent a condo from Island Getaway. They are very reputable and to my knowledge, are the only management company on HHI to have been named business of the year by the local Chamber of Commerce. We were always pleased with the units we rented from them. I really think that a condo rental is the way to go on HH. The oceanfront hotels are very overpriced, IMO.

Thanks for the replies. :flower:
