Need some vacation ideas

DH wants to take a big family vacation the first week of August. It will be he and I, our 16 yr DD, our 10 yr DS and our 11.5 month DGD. We have used all of our DVC points this year (plus 20 from next) and don't have current AP's. Here are some things that interest us. Does anybody have any ideas?!?!?!

I like thrill rides, going through museums & old homes, great food, and great lodging.

DH likes great food, always doing something, wants to scuba dive, loves golf, likes to be entertained.

DD loves to shop, hang out on the beach, shop, and be in a nice hotel/resort. Oh..... yes.... and did I mention shopping?

DS loves swimming pools with slides, rides, not dressing up, golf, and watching TV as much as possible.

DGD loves to be loved and hates to be hot. While she is not extremely fair complected, she is still a baby with tender skin. She hates sand in her baby toes. Flying is OK with some extra effort on our part.

We are all very spoiled with Disney's attention to detail and quality resort amenities. We also love the extra room that we get in a 2-BR DVC resort. We don't do well with all 5 of us in one room.

Yes, I know that I have just described WDW. We were thinking that, since we are out of DVC points and AP's right now, that this would be a good time to try something new.

How does Universal stack up to our list?

Anybody have any suggestions?!?!?!

Claudia, I think Universal might be great for ya'll. It's less expensive than Disney (well, the passes are) and the on-site hotels are having some very low rates through HotWire right now - low enough that you could get two rooms for the normal price of one.

How about coming to Palm Beach...we have beautiful white sand beaches...all the golf you could want..and if you found the right hotel..it may even have a water slide...or we even have a water park. The Breakers Hotel is AWESOME...even the Ritz Carlton. If you don't care for dropping that much money there is the Marriott on Hutchinson Island...and you can still drive to Orlando and stay there for a day or two to see Universal..

Just a thought.... Good Luck

How about Virginia? There's Colonial williamsburg, Bucsh Gardens, Water Country USA ,and Virginia Beach is just about hour away from all of those. THat's where we are going this summer:D

I second Williamsburg! We'll be heading there the week after school is out and we were lucky enough to get a one night stay thorugh Orbitz at Powhatan Plantation (2 BR loft - 800 sq. ft.) for $117. This was an "add on" to a great deal I got through another site for a 4 night/5 day stay in a 2 BR, 1600 sq. ft. timeshare at King's Creek Plantation for $300. We were flexible for dates and were lucky to get a timeshare that someone had booked and cancelled. Their loss was our gain! The King's Creek Unit usually rents for over $1600 for a week! The only downside is the 5 in 1 pass for Busch Gardens, Water Country, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown will cost as much as our lodging!:bounce:
