My kitty brought home a stray a few weeks ago. Its about 8 weeks old maybe. I've been feeding him and trying to get him used to being around people. He's doing a little better. One night he let me pet him while he was eating, but usually he stays away if he sees you.
I have a good sized cage that I was using for my cat that was recouperating from a broken pelvis (he's doing soooooo good!).
I was thinking about maybe trying to catch the little guy and bring him inside in the cage. I would put a box or something in there that he could "hide" in and also keep it mostly covered with a sheet or something so he'd feel somewhat safe.
Part of me wants to do this so we can start getting him used to people, but on the other hand, I don't want to freak him out.

Any suggestions?

Has anyone tried to tame a wild kitty???

eventually after feeding it and gently moving closer it came around and warmed up to us. All of us but my then 4yrold. It really scratched her up bad and she wasn't even holding it. We got rid of it right after that.
When we first found it we left it outside and kept feeding it. I figured it would let us touch when it was ready, and it did.

Good Luck!

I would try it. The ones we have found have adjusted ok without cages, but I guess it depends on the cat. He's still young so that is a plus. I know that they need to be socialized while they are young because it is near impossible to do it when they are older. It sounds like kitty really wants a home, but is still scared. I think what you suggested would be good. He may need litterbox trained too.Good Luck!!

Yes, we have but they are forever "restless" and want to be outside, (older cats).
One of them ended up having FvLk & we exposed our kitty to him. Sometimes it isn't a good idea.
I would get it tested first and then proceed.

Thats one of the reasons I want to "catch" him I want to take him to the vet to see if he's OK. He's such a little guy to be on his own. If he checks out ok, he'll definatly be staying! ;)

My dad saved a kiten that fell down in a post hole - she didn't have any claws left from trying to climb out and was only 4-6 weeks old. She survived and is the queen of the castle. She's not the most social cat and jumps at the slightest thing. However now she's a lot more social that my dd is always around (granny watches her). She will jump on your lap and sit now and she never would before the "baby". Her name is baby and she was the baby - she don't like sharing attention with that other baby.

Tomorrow I'm going to try and bring a stray male to our Vet. We call him Dad because I think he's the father of at least one of the stray kittens we got two years ago.

If he gets a clean bill of health, we'll probably keep him. He's the sweetest cat and in some ways a lot like a dog. When I'm outside working, he follows me around from place to place and lays in the grass watching me plants flowers or paint.

If he's positive for FIV or Feline leukemia, my heart will be broken. :( I'm going to do everything in my power to find a home for him. Deep down, I think he'll be positive because he's had some wounds from fighting and FIV is rampant in our area.

Any P & PD you can spare that he test negative would be most appreciated.

No, actually I have a very good sense of humor when things are truly funny. I found your comments to be disturbing and childish.

Have a nice day.

And I am in complete agreement with you! That comment was not even remotely funny................

Ah you need to lighten up then maybe loosen the apron strings a bit and get out some LOL now that is funny.

People do not find a statement like that even in jest remotely funny. Just the other day another DIS'er lost their kitty to some sicko who poisioned him and left him on the doorstep with his head in a box of rat poison.

yuck. Who would do such a thing.

I know I read that post that is why I said what I did not to make light of his/her situation but to bring some humour to the situation. We have a stray here that digs or was digging in our garden. We called animal control and they told us unless it is causing any problems with your children they could really do nothing so I got out the BB gun nad made sure I scared it well enough it wouldn't come back and it hasn't. I wasn't going to take any chances on it scratching or biting one of my kids who love to play outside. It wouldn't leave the yard so I made it leave. My kids health and safety are not worth a stray cat to me.

Maybe you should just stop telling us stuff...ok?
Right now I am fostering 5 kittens.
I don't want to hear anymore about BB guns or see anymore of your type of humor.

Lisajl everyone is entitled to an opinion you have yours I have mine and everyone else on here has one that is what is great we can all express our opinions some like them some don't not really a big deal. I may not agree with some opinions that you may have or somone else but I am not going to tell them to stop posting to a subject becasue of it I have no right to do that.

You know I work at a vets office and see a lot of crap that happens to pets from people like you.
I don't think the moderators should allow you to post awful stuff like animal abuse.
JMHO...Just my honest opinion.
You make me ill.

Not straycat advice but advice from straycat..
