Need some prayers and PD for my parents!

My mom & dad have decided to sell their house and downsize. They have a monstrosity of a home that they just can't afford to keep up anymore. It's over 6,000 square feet and they don't use most of it! They made on offer on the neighbors house but there is already an offer in. The first offer was contingent on the buyer's home selling which my parents offer wasn't.

Please send some prayers and PD their way. This is a big step for them but they are both in their mid 70's and need to downsize to a more manageable home.

Good luck!!! It's a tremendous favor to you if they can downsize and reduce their belongings before they become unable to help with the process. It's really hard to sort through the possessions of a lifetime, especially 6,000 square feet, but it makes thigns so much easier, knowing that they have been able to make those decisions. I moved my parents to the South from Brooklyn when they were 61 and 68, NOT an easy thing since they lived in the same place for 30 years! We gave them less than nothing to do, furnished the house, moved them, even had all of the utilities set to their comfort. It lessened the trauma completely.

I worked at a senior living center until December. It was FULL of people like your parents and moving can be traumatizing. You can do your part by helping them with the basics. Taking the little things off of their shoulders lessens the trauma. I can tell you're a caring child so I know you'll do whatever it takes.

I've been talking to them alot today - going over the plan if this offer goes through. They will have a couple of months to get things ready. I told mom that we'd just take it room by room and sort through what goes and what stays. They seem in pretty good spirits about the whole thing.

Now if I can just convince my sister that they aren't getting ripped off - she thinks their house is worth about double what they are listing it for. The housing market here isn't like where she lives in L.A.
