:sad2: I am so sad! We were leaving for DW TODAY, on a 7:00am flight from Ottawa to Atlanta to Orlando on Delta....at 4:10am, I get an automated phone call from Delta saying the flight is cancelled (due to weather???) & we are now re-booked for the same time tomorrow!!

I just can not believe it! My kids are still sleeping but when they wake up, they are going to be sooooo disappointed! No Boma tonight!

And, what weather?? Delta says they are not compensating us as it's not their fault & now we lose a night of our paid vacation at DW. I'm not understanding this whole "weather" thing as it's beautiful in Ottawa & when I check weather in Atlanta, it says it's partially cloudy...big deal!

Anyway, now I'm terrified something will happen to tomorrow's flight too! This truly sucks....anyone got some extra good luck to send my way?
 
I feel terrible for you and can imagine your disappointment. I can't imagine it is a weather problem...I've never heard of a plane being grounded for rain (snow yes) but usually there would be delays due to weather not complete cancellations. Since they really didn't give you a reason maybe you should phone Delta today to see what was going on and make sure everything is good for tomorrow...I know I would feel better getting the info from a person rather than an automated machine. Maybe you could do something special with the kids today to keep them busy and make the day go faster. I would doubt they could cancel you twice. Have a great trip!
 
I would make the airline find you another flight out. We had that problem where a flight was cancel and I called and they even booked me on another airline. It can't hurt to try. Good Luck

I agree to call the airline and see what they can do.
 

Have to say, not at all impressed with Delta. They would do NOTHING....gave us a flight for tomorrow & basically said, "Too bad for you!"

On the other hand, DW is so great! They have refunded us for today; they tried to bump us in for another night but all the moderate resorts are filled to capacity. They did say though that if they get a cancellation, we could stay an another night.

Oh well...what can you do?

Feel bad for my kids though....one is up & crying & the other soon will be. Hope all goes well for us tomorrow.

I can imagine how sad you and your kids must be! I'd stick my screaming daughter on the phone with someone from Delta! I hope the rest of your trip goes off without any problems and you have loads of fun! Delta of course has just lost more customers as the word spreads.
 
Since you all had the day off anyway...make it a family fun day.

Do things you don't normally do....go cart racing, bowling, a cool museum, nice meal out, movie, etc.

There are so many things in my town we never get around to doing.....I think it could be really fun....

Make the most out of it!!

Wow that does stink and it just amazes me how they can get away with what they do.

Talk about needing regulations to protect the cosumer here's a prime example of it.

I just can't believe they don't have other flights going out from airport to airport for an entire day.

Glad your keeping your spirits up and your correct you will be in Disney shortly.
 
This is typical of air travel in the US these days. Call and raise hell. Maybe nothing will happen, but you never know.

There's a website called consumerist.com it take complaints of your nature quite seriously. It has phone numbers for people who are high up in Delta.
Give it a try. Can't hurt
 
Oh, I'm sorry! How disappointing! Well, at least you're ready and should have time today to relax and do stuff you normally wouldn't. But yeah, it sucks.

Did you find out what the problem was? My dh is flying home from NC today to NS, and I sure hope nothing stops HIM--I really need a grown up to talk to!!
 
There is really heavy rain and flooding as well as tornado touch down in northern Florida and the surrounding area that is probably why the flight was cancelled. I hope it passes quickly and that you fly tomorrow with no problems. Also wish your family an extra magical stay at DW to make up for the disappointment. Let us know with a trip report how everything turns out.
 
Thanks for the info Wee Haggis. Hopefully that won't venture any further north to disrupt my dh's day.
 
That's really cruel! I'm sure your kids will be soo disappointed. Try to keep them (and yourself) distracted with a fun activity for the day and dinner out. Put on your Mickey shirts and try to grin though it - hopefully you'll get on your flight tomorrow.

Do you need to book seats or do they put you on stand-by with the rest of the passengers from today's cancelled flight?

That really sucks. And to think I was worried about weather problems come January. Take advantage of the grogeous day here today -- if its any compensation I'm sitting in a cubicle and can only see outside if I stand up and walk around a corner and I'm not going anywhere near Disney for 4 months. I feel your pain though. :hug: :goodvibes for tomorrow.
 
I so sorry your plane was cancelled for today. I can't believe there were no other flights that they could have got you on. Hope everything goes O.K. tomorrow. We are flying with Delta in Feb. now I'm worried.

But there is always a bright side -- which would you rather choose, a day's delay or an airline that didn't take safety into consideration? I'm sure you'd rather be flexible than potentially put your family into harm's way -- I saw the pictures on this morning's news of the situation in Florida and flying through that weather system wouldn't have been pretty. It sucks so much that your plans were messed up, but at least you're all safe! :)

Despite this frustration, I hope the rest of your vacation is MAGICAL! :wizard:

Thanks for the suggestion Trish. Being up since 4am, I figured on top of the disappointment of losing a DW day, it would just be too much to send my guys to school, so I spent some time thinking about what to do. Your suggestion to go bowling was a great idea!! That's exactly what we did...I won!!! Dad lost!!! LOL!! Lots of fun. And than afterwards, we had a nice big lunch at a local Chinese Buffet so we are all feeling better by this afternoon. Not DW but still some fun family time in the sun.

That was an excellent question & one I hadn't thought of...those Delta people can be sneaky....:scared: .....anyway, I noticed that on the new e-tickets they sent, there was no assigned seating. I just got off the phone & they said not a problem at all but the only seating available for us was on the wing exit & they assign that last minute....hmmm....Anyway, she said we are ON, not stand by but ON the plane!

Yes, you are absolutely right & I did say that exact thing to the boys....but first I let them have their little cry as it was disappointing. All is better now & we look forward to tomorrow!

I just have to say though...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the CM's at DW...they absolutely are the nicest people & really have been so accomodating & kind! I've spoke to DMagical Express, DDReservations (ended up having to lose Hoop-de-Doo Revival :sad1: ), CM's at POR....everyone has just been so nice to us & understanding. I know DW seems expensive to some people but my goodness they do a good job of keeping their customers happy!

So, hopefully, we will be their tomorrow.......................
