We have secret buddies at work and mine has been a god send. Today I recieved some low carb chocolate chip cookies, jelly beans, and chocolate bar. But I'm not so sure about them, for example, my chocolate chip cookies say net effective carbs less then 3 grams, yet the total carb count says 13g with 3 grams of fiber so that means 10g that I count. So how is it less then 3 grams? Also , and someone explain how these sugar alcohols cancel out the carbs, for example, the jelly beans state that it has 36 g of carbs but then it says -33g of sugar alcohol and that it equals to 3g of carbs total. I have been doing so good and I don't want to blow it so someone please explain!

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.

But my favorite snack is the Mauna Loa macadamia nuts with 1/4 cup, with 3-grams of carbs, 2-gm fiber for a total of 1-gm net carbs.

But what I really like is the fat content of 32 grams.

It's a great way to get your fat quota.

You can do it.

God bless you, best wishes, and encouragement, Sincerely, RaySharpton:)

Because sugar alcohols do not stay in your body they have no impact on your insulin. However a big word of caution some people have serious issues with the sugar alcohols. If you eat too many of these you could be spending a lot of time in the loo!

As for the cookies perhaps the 10 carbs in the choc. chip cookies are a combination of a sugar substitute and sugar alcohols.

Hope this helps!

Theoretically, sugar alcohols have a negative impact on blood sugar levels, so there's no insulin reaction. And they're not absorbed by your body (hence a sometimes strong laxative effect).

So, theoretically, you can subtract the sugar alcohol carbs from your total carbs for a net carb. Net carbs are those that DO affect your blood sugar/insulin.

Now... that works fine for some people. Other people get the same reaction from sugar alcohols that they do from sugar. Some people get a little reaction. You just have to figure out how they affect you.

You can subtract them. You can count them all. Or you can subtract half.

I am one of those people that get a reaction from Sugar Alcohol and let me tell you, it is not fun! LOL I am fine if I eat like one tiny piece of anything that has SA in it, but after that, forget it...I learned my lesson the hard way too. When I first got Carbolite from a friend that send me some, I ate an entire bar of it in like 2 seconds. I suffered the rest of the day and that evening!

I know what you mean about the effect of sugar alcohols..LOL!

I will say, for me, that I go into serious stalls whenever I have any of these. I was doing the Atkins bars and SF chocolates for a while and I didn't lose a pound. I stopped using them and dropped three pounds in a week. This WOE is such a trial and error thing.

Lulu, I don't lose anything when I eat them either!:( I stall myself instead, which is unfortunate because they are tasty! LOL
