I'm looking for ideas or suggestions for a birthday gift for a pregnant friend. I don't want to buy her clothes or baby stuff; I was hoping to get her something she can appreciate while she is pregnant.

Having no other pregnant friends and not ever having been pregnant myself, I'm at a loss as to what a pregnant woman might like. Does anyone know of a few gift basket ideas or any items pregnant women shouldn't be without?

A gift for DURING pregnancy...a pregnancy massage::yes:: , if she is or will be on bed rest: a basket filled with mags, a book, nail polish.

A gift that is much appreciated afterwards is some meals. Something you make & freeze (in a disposable/ovenproof container), she can pull it out when she is having a stressful day. And don't forget to include paper plates & utensils...because who wants to do dishes!!!

Bath and Body Works has a maternity collection that is awesome! ( at least they used to) a leg cooling gel, some stretch mark cream etc. Anything to help her be more comfortable. :)

Thanks for the ideas!

To clarify: her birthday is in a couple weeks, she is due in December, and she's not on bed rest.

A massage product would be nice.
Lotion that will prevent/erase stretch marks (shea butter is great).
I would make a basket and put a bunch of spa related stuff in it that she can pamper herself with. Especially when she's at the uncomfortable "I can't wait to get this baby out of me" part. How about a gc for a pedicure?

Exactly what I was going to suggest! Those pregnancy massages are absolute heaven.

If you can't swing the massage, how about a pedicure?

When I was pregnant I couldn't get enough chocolate......

I also appreciated a body pillow, made sleeping on my side much more comfortable.

If this is her first child, I'd recommend gift certificates for a nice restaurant and a movie with her husband. She won't get to do either one for a while after the baby gets here!

You got that right! I can count on one hand how many times I went to the movies in the past 6 years that were not cartoons or Elmo! On that same hand I can count how many times DH and I have been out to eat alone!

A pedicure....I LOVED having a pedicure when I was pregnant. Just the foot massage alone was heavenly. I also had my legs waxed prior to my delivery, a godsend really. Try shaving your legs in your ninth month...gravity is not your friend :)

Gift certificates for either of those things are great. I also second the idea of the pre-made meals. I do that for friends now because it was the best gift I got when I got home. My mom and sister shopped for me for the week and then made a week's worth of meals. AWESOME!

Maybe a gift card to her favorite store so she can go buy herself something nice after she has the baby, or a restaurant gc like someone else mentioned. Does she like to read? Maybe a gc to a bookstore.

I'm trying to remember what I got for my bday when I was pregnant (I had my daughter 3 weeks after my bday), but for the life of me I cannot remember.

If she doesn't have the book, What to Expect while your Expecting... that's a book pregnant woman have loved reading for years.
I think they have a couple of different books in the series now about the subject.
