Tomorrow my SIL & I are giving a bridal shower for my sister. It's going to be a "Tastefully Simple" party. Attendees taste samples of the food products, which they can then purchase. Our idea is to have the guests purchase soME of the products for the bride-to-be in lieu of a more traditional gift. They are supposed to be quite good and very easy to prepare - perfect for a busy working person.

Anyway, I am just entering my second week of Induction (Atkins) and since I am doing so well, I really don't want to blow it at the shower. I'm fairly certain most of the "samples" will be loaded with carbs.

Any ideas on how I can handle this? I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments.

TIA!

I'm probably not going to be much help here...

I would simply not eat what I wasn't comfortable with. If there was something that I really wanted to taste, I might have a small bite (but not the whole sample...). But it doesn't bother me to not eat what everyone else is.

Carol, I would not eat anything that I knew had high carbs, either. If someone asks you why tell them you aren't allowed to have those foods because of your diabetes. If you aren't comfortable saying that then just tell them you are following Atkins for two weeks and those foods aren't allowed. If you aren't comfortable with telling them you are on Atkins then just tell them you just aren't hungry right then.

My true favorite thing to say to nosy people who want to know why I'm not eating the food at a party, though, is, "Why do you ask?"

Relax and have fun! Make sure you have some Atkins friendly treats on hand and eat something before the party. Atkins friendly treats are easy to sneak on a party menu without anyone noticing. Macadamia nuts or sunflower seed kernels (not on induction), cubes of cheese, little coctail sausages, slices of deli meats and mayonaise...oooh, deviled eggs, I love deviled eggs, green olives, crab stuffed mushrooms, shrimp brochette. Okay, I'm hungry now :)

I have a friend that is a TS rep. Here is their website

Tastefully Simple

Since you are a co-hostess, I would bring a separate dish to share (you may have other guests following Atkins too). You will probably be too busy with your hosting duties to indulge.

Tink is right there may be others at the party with the same dilema...plus if you eat "allowed" foods before the party and your not hungry...just stay "busy"...clean up...refresh drinks. Geesh..I didn't even get to eat at my own wedding...because I was so "busy"...lol

Good Luck, let us know how you do...!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely going to eat before I go and I think I'll take along some appropriate snacks, too, just in case. :teeth:

You're right - since I'm one of the the hostesses, I don't think anyone will notice if I don't eat.

Thanks for the ideas - I'll let you know how it went.

I'm happy to report that all of your advice worked! I ate before I went and took along some legal snacks. I was so busy filling and refilling drinks and passing trays that no one even noticed that I wasn't tasting anything. All the attention was on my sister (which was exactly the plan)!

I sipped on ice water and coffee and didn't even need the snacks but was glad I had them. When I was tempted I told my self I had to eat the good stuff first. But then someone would need something and before I knew it the tempting stuff had moved on. Kept my party "tasting" to a few raw cucumbers and a few olives. Ate legal when I returned home.

Thanks again for the advice and support. I think knowing I had to report in here really helped, too. You people are wonderful!
