Next spring, April 2016 to be exact, I am going on my honeymoon with my fiancee. Well actually she will be my wife by then! We are trying to plan as much as we can very far in advance in order to get exactly what we want. Our plan is to stay for a week in one of the Garden Suites at the Boardwalk Inn. We love what we have read about those suites. Their location, size, amenities and quietness seem perfect for a honeymoon. The garden suites are a tad expensive though and as a newly wed couple we don't want to completely break the bank for our honeymoon.

My fiancee and I have discussed finances and we do agree that we can afford it and will find it worth it to get the garden suite for our honeymoon if we had to pay full price. However we do know that Disney frequently offers discounts. Looking back at the history of Disney discounts we see that they always seem to offer that 30% spring discount during the time we will be going for our honeymoon. However that discount usually only shows up at the end of December. It seems like garden suites don't really get booked very fast. In fact I see that I can reserve one for a few weeks from today. I assume this is because the garden suites are only for 2 people and more expensive.

What would YOU do in our situation? Would you book the garden suite as soon as possible and then hope you can apply the spring discount once that comes along? Or do you wait until December and book the garden suite with a discount? I have to admit I'm a big Disney newbie. I've never been there before so I don't know how this all works. Are they very cooperative with you if you ask to apply a 30% discount to a reservation that was made months and months before the discount came out? We just know that 30% off one of those rooms would save us a ton of money and would love to take advantage of it.

Thanks for any tips/advice!

If you are set on getting a Garden Suite at the Boardwalk then I would book it as soon as possible. If later you can get a discount then great, if not you still have the room you want. If you wait to book and for whatever reason you can't get a suite have a back-up plan for another room that you would like. My experience is that you should book what you want. Cheers!!!!!

Agreed!

If you book as soon as possible, then you know that you have the room that you want for your honeymoon. When the discounts become available, call right away. If your room type is available under the discount, they will give it to you, no problem.

Best wishes on your upcoming wedding!

Awesome! I just have no experience with this. I wasn't sure if applying discounts after a reservation is made is something you need to fight for or something they will happily give you if the room type is available for the discount. Looks like we will just make the reservation as soon as possible and hope for the best come the end of December!

Nope, no fighting needed. But the key is, if there is availability.

Hopefully a whole bunch of people don't decide to take their honeymoons in those specific suites in April 2016! I know we could get unlucky and there happens to be no availability come discount time but it doesn't seem like this room type fills up.

Are suites typically covered under the 30% off rates? I think that is my only concern with your plan. I thought suites were typically excluded.
Don't want to rain on your parade!

They seem to be. I can do the current 30% discount on the garden suites for later this year.

Keep in mind they only alot a certain amount of the rooms for each category they choose to include. So overall room availibilty doesn't mean discount availibilty.

Example: If there are 10 garden suites, they might only alot 3 of them for the discount promo.

If you are willing to pay full price than book now. If your reservation is dependant on a discount than wait for it to be released.

Or, have a back up plan in case you can't get that exact room. Trust me, you will find other rooms and other resorts just as appealing!

In this situation I would definitely book using a TA. Have them go ahead and book it and make sure they know you would like a discount if one becomes available. Then, when the discounts come out they do the work getting it moved over. It doesn't guarantee you a discount, but it can take some of the work off you.
