Hello budgeteers.
I know that a lot of you are very savvy when it comes to financing. My friend is in dire financial straits due to a divorce and a decrease in hours at work. She has quite a bit of credit card debt (I don't know how much) and says she is having trouble making her mortgage payments. She has applied for mortgage modification through her loan company, but it is a long process. She says @ this point she is 3 months behind on the mortgage and they are now threatening foreclosure. The house needs a bit of work (this is where the debt was incurred, the heater and the roof went in the same year) she is willing to sell the house, she doesn't really want to, but if i is the only option she will, but because of the work still needed she is not sure if it will sell at all, but if it did she definitely would take a loss.
I know there are a lot of scams out there, I am looking for some links to legit credit counselors, debt consolidation and mortgage modification programs. She lives in New Jersey if that helps.
