My parents have a DVC membership and are looking to go back to OKW for three nights in August. My dad, who usually handles the reservation, agreed to go but said that he will not make the arrangements this time. So that leaves my mom to do it. She's clueless on how to do it, she has her member card with her and I told her that I think she can do it thru email or on a website or something (she can't call cause there is alot of commotion at work). But neither one of us know where to go to find this info.

Can someone help us from here? We want to get the studio booked so that my dad doesn't change his mind on agreeing to go and then we can also book the airfare. Does she need a password or anything?

TIA!

Tell her to call the 800# on the back of the card and listen to the phone directions. She will only have to push a couple of numbers and then she will get someone to talk to. She should tell the person she gets on the phone that she has never done this before. They will help her through it and it will get done today. She won't need any passwords or codes.

Are you sure about this trip. It doesn't sdound like dad is interested.

On the back of her member card is the 800 number. Once the first recording comes on, she should press 3. Another recording comes on and she should press 3 again. When member services answers, they will ask various questions and then she can make the reservation.

The member website is www.dvcmember.com.

Each user does need to have a unique member name and ID. If she hasn't signed up already, it will require a phone call to Member Services. There's no way around that.

Also be advised that while the website does allow you to make requests for a reservation, it's not a realtime booking system. She can fill out a page that lists the requested dates, room size, resort, etc., and DVC will respond within 24-48 hours to verify if the request has been met or not.

You might want to consider that Member Services is open late on Thursday nights--until 7pm eastern time. If possible, you might just want to have her call then. When she calls, they will ask for the member ID and some personal information to verify identity (address, SSN, etc.) Then she just needs to be prepared with the trip dates and choice of room / resort. Even for a first-time caller, it's a rather painless process.

Just have her call Member Services - the 800 # is on the back of her card. They will ask her some security questions (address, names on account, maybe social security, etc.), and then she can make the ressie over the phone. It's quite painless.

I haven't used email, but I've heard it is really slow and time will be of the essence if studios are in short supply.

MS has been very helpful to us.

MS handles calls, daily, from DVC members who have never made a DVC reservation before. They know what they are doing .... and when your mom is done making the reservation, she'll probably wondered why she didn't take care of the reservations earlier.

Good luck!

What the %#%@!* is the big deal about making the reservation? This is strange and suspicious if you ask me.

I agree, just have her call the 800# on the back of the card. No passwords needed, and the member number is already on the card, so she has that. I would do it ASAP though, because studios are in short supply, and August is not far away. BTW, even if she COULD use the email (and she can't if she doesn't know the individual member specific ID), I would not reccomend it for making a reservation this late. In all likelyhood, you will need to do some compromising on when and where to get it accomplished.

Sometimes, you get tired of doing all of the planning yourself. Especially, if it's a trip you're not overly thrilled about to begin with.

Since the phone is difficult for your mom, have her try to get on the website as posted above. As stated earlier, though, if you do not know your user id and password (maybe it's saved on the home computer?), you'll have to call MS. Then, best bet is the Thursday night thing. Good luck!

Actually, this is probably a very good thing. Better that both spouses know how to do things in general rather than one doing everything. That way, in the event of an unforeseen circumstance no one is left standing in the dark and a wonderful DVC membership going unused due to lack of knowledge on the process.

Obviously, this applies to much more than DVC, but in this case it is such a pleasure working with the CM's that your mom will get over any anxiety quickly!

Good luck! :)

Well she called and you all were right, the CM that helped her was super nice and she said it was so easy and fast to do that she couldnt' believe she had never done it before. They got their studio and are all set to go! Thanks for all the help.

And PKS44, it's just that my dad wasn't sure about going back down so soon (they just got back two weeks ago) and didn't want to be the one to do all the leg work. Nothing to be suspicious over!

Really glad it worked out for you!!!

If you have never done something before and it seems overwhelming (even if it really isn't) it can be a big deal..
